"The blue 88" with the great big toolbox!"

That's how Denis Nault, Director of Environmental Affairs for the Bay State Rover Owner's Association, singled out my Rover at the 1994 Mid-Atlantic Rally. Denis isn't the only one to make favorable comments about the monster locker that takes up half my rear bed.

It all came about because I wanted to be able to safely stow my tools, SCUBA gear and video equipment. The toolbox was built to my specifications by Ernie Klopping at Roverworks. The hinges and latch are genuine Land-Rover hardware, so the box looks like a factory option. There's also an internal reinforcement so that I can mount a SCUBA tank rack to the rear of the box. Believe it or not, there are times when it's not big enough! I'm already planning the revised version, which will be made of aluminum diamondplate and allow an addtional cover for the rest of the load bed to be attached when I need more secure space.
