Hook the field to 12 volts - if it starts to charge then
the genny is OK. DO NOT REV THE ENGINE WHEN IT IS LIKE
THIS! If that's the case, likely the cut-out relay in the
regulator has gone or the contacts are
corroded/arced/crapped up. Swap the regulator and it should
start working again.
They likely make a cheap transistor substitute for the
regulator if you prefer not to deal with the relay
type...there is little to one of these devices.
