The threads don't seal that fitting! It's the flare on the end of
the pipe, held in compression by the threads of the flare nut, that
does the sealing. There is supposed to be a bubble flare at the
master cylinder outlet, with a male flare nut backing it up. If the
flare is buggered, there's a double flare, or you've got the wrong
sort of tube nut on the pipe, it won't seal. The proper nut is
3/8-24 thread, about 3/4 inch long, with about an 1/8 inch unthreaded
snout bearing against the flare. American style flare nuts are
threaded to the the end, and while the threads match, won't seal
    properly.

If you've got the right flare nut, it's likely that the flare is
damaged (bubble flares can be damaged by over torqueing), or you've
got a double flare on the pipe, or the machined mating surface at the
bottom of the outlet hole in the master is damaged. I'd bet on a
problem with the pipe, though. If the flare nut is good, you can get
a competent mechanic to reflare the end for you, or buy a new pipe
from your favorite land rover parts place.
