Well, the weather is nice here in Michigan so I took the 109 for a spin
with the new Rochester installed. What a difference from the Zenith
carb! However, the truck was backfiring occasionally when I first was
under way. It seemed that this went away once the engine was warmed up.
I assume this may be a timing problem. I have a 50 main jet. I'm at
about 400-500 ft above sea level. This seems to be close to the jet size
folks use at or near sea level. Since I'm new to Series trucks I thought
I'd run this by the list for advise. Should I play with the little
knurled adjustment knob on the dizzy? Or, do you think I need a
different jet size? Or, both?
An additional piece of info: When it was extremely cold I would start
the truck to a couple times a week in the driveway. With the choke fully
closed it would start right up and run great. Then, I'd come back in
about 5-10 minutes and it had cut out. I could not get it to start
again. Coming back later in the day, it would start right up! Do you
think it backfired and cut out while I wasn't around? Or does this sound
like a different problem?
TIA,
Paul Schultz.
