I think it would be a PITA to change the T-piece w/o removing the rear
tub or the roof, but I think it can be done. The T-piece bolts to the
chassis in two places--up at the bulkhead outrigger, and then again two
outriggers back (i'm doing this from 1.5 year old memories, but I think
    this is right).

You'd have to remove the middle door, chisel off the rivets holding the
angled part of the t-piece to the rear tub, then undo these fixings (and
the ones at the roof) and then see if you can weasel it down and out (and
thus save yourself the trouble of loosening and raising the roof).
Should be do-able in several hours w/ two guys.

There's also a rivet or two from the galvy trim at the top of the tub
down through the top rearmost portion of the T-piece. So I guess you
will have to raise the roof enough to chisel these off, unless you can
cut off their bottoms from underneath. If you want to do it right you'll
have to raise it enough to replace em too, but I imagine the whole assy
    won't go anywhere if you don't replace those rivets . . .

Replacing the rivets will be the only job at which you might balk, b/c to
replicate the original rivts requires an air hammer and bucking bar and
all sorts of stuff I've never understood no matter how many posts
there've been on it. What I did was get sealing, high-strength pop
rivets at an aircraft hardware supplier and use those everywhere.

Hope that was at least a bit helpful.
