Kurt: It probably will involve cutting of the transmission tunnel but I am
unsure. Call Ray Wood at Wise Owl and ask him or one of his staff. They
are in my experience 100 percent courteous and professional and have
generally been very good to me. My only beef with Wise Owl is their
sometimes high post and packing charges ont heir Ebay sales. But OTOH they
always post the charges clearly so that's not really a legitimate beef. You
definitely want to be able to split gears with the 2.25 even in an 88. I
had a 109 and it was a real benefit to gear down into 2nd OD on steep hills
(really steep), to keep speed at the anaemic maximum.
You do not want the HRTC kit.
Because I am committing mortal sin (bless me father for I have sinned, in
thought, word and deed), and making my land rover impure (the nun swoons),
by modifying it to add a capable engine and stout transmission (but I still
have rover axles and a partly pure transfer case, (gee is it ok to use the
HRTC kit?????)), I think I have a spare transmission tunnel with hole for a
fairey overdrive already in place, available. It is uncorroded and in
generally good shape. Freshly sandblasted and painted. Let me know if you
want it, and you will then be able to keep your tunnel hole free and/or
avoid the challenge/risk of cutting a hole in your tunnel. I understand
your wanting to avoid doing that (if that is indeed a hesitation you have)
because it always is a bit nerve wracking to step down a one way path -
which is always the case when one starts cutting on metal.
Can youtell I have an attitude about the "purity" debate.
Not the least bit defensive though. Its my rig.
Is a rover still a rover if I use a non stock fuel filter, or spin on oil
filter adapter or modern oils or nonstock paint
