I've got different "goodie boxes" for things. I used to keep a nice
assortment of bolts and nuts in the garage, but they are kind of useless
there unless you are actually working on the vehicle there. I've got clear
plano boxes ,with about 25 divisions in them, with nuts, bolts, and asst
hardware in one, all kinds of electrical goodies in the other, and a box of
crimp connectors in the other. They fit perfectly behind the seat. Hardware
on driver's side, electrical on pass.

Al, you have Lucar on board? What a guy ;-)

My toolbox is actually pretty small and I don't carry a lot of stuff in it.
I would definitely say that tie wraps, nuts, bolts and hard parts are higher
on the list than tools. Tools are easy to get or borrow. Parts are not.

I've gotten around with 5 or 6 wrenches, a pair of side cutters, the much
maligned but ever useful vice grip, crimping tool, sockets and ratchet, and
other small useful hand tools. Minimalistic, yes, but I DO carry a 19/32
socket painted bright red wherever I go. If you do not have a whitworth
socket try and get one of these from a snap on rep.

I used to have to carry a lot more tools when Valdez was in a constant state
of disrepair, but now that most everything is sorted, I haven't really
needed the tool kit in a long time. I think the low point was the trip back
from NS last year (which incidentally got me the Gasket Under Glass). I
think there is not a single tool I didn't use for something other than its
    intended use on that trip.

One thing that I carry religiously during road trips is water. Lots of it. I
have a canadian military can of non-potable for the engine. I've had bad
experiences with overheats and blown hoses, and although they are usually
easy to fix, refilling the radiator by the roadside with your 10L of potable
water is usually a bad idea. Keep the good water for the humans. I usually
have the water can stapped to the roofrack and I forget it's there. When I
    need it, though, it's great.
