Well the new 8.1 head is on order. After reviewing my old one looks like
all of the components are in need of replacement (exhaust valves and guides
shot, intake valves needing replacing as well, etc.) And the head was
already milled to 3.570 - .030 less than recommended for an 8:1 compression
ratio. Based on the availability and cost of all of the components, not to
mention the labor costs (and the thinness of the head - I don't think it has
many more millings in it's life), I ended up getting a replacement 8:1 head
from Rovers North - should have it by Monday. With any luck my 109 will be
back on the road by the end of next week.
Now... other than just making sure I keep everything clean (I'm very
carefully going to clean up the carbon residue along the cylinder edges on
the block and clean up the remains of the head gasket), are there any
gotchas or tips you folks have for putting the head back on? Is it a pretty
exact fit without any 'wiggle room' to watch out for, etc.?
