By coincidence I was going to ask the same question.
On my llA with the push button start, the starter
motor spins fast with the ignition off but slowly with
the key is turned.
Also, I get some pinking/knock going up hills under
load.
I have just installed a new, working vacuum advance.
I have been advised to retard the timing by unscrewing
the vernier screw on the vacuum advance by half a turn
at a time until the knock on hills disappears.
Is this correct. It seems a very long winded process.
