Static timing should be set with #1 piston ASCENDING the bore on the
COMPRESSION stroke. If you turn the engine with the #1 glow plug removed
and the rocker cover off, you should be able to tell when you are on the
compression stroke by observing the valve position. Another way to tell
where you are in the cycle is to watch the exhaust valve to see when it
is fully open. The Exhaust Peak mark should show up in the window. From
here you should rotate the engine until you feel air pushing out the
glow plug hole...the piston will now be on the compression stroke.
As to the flywheel marks, these do not seem to be 2A marks. Guess your
best. EP should be the same.
