there was a shortage of steel but the chassis (frame) came out that way
because they used scrap steel they had lying around to make the first one.
Tom /Mr Land Rover' Barton told me (and a pile of other journalists) that...
when someone asked him if it would have been any different if they had been
able to get whatever steel they wanted Tom said: 'D'you know, I've never
thought of that!'
