Safest and best is to replace the shoes, most definitely. There are those
of us who have been known to clean a pair of brand-new shoes (cough...) by
burning off the old oil but this is neither desirable nor recommended (even
though it works well on riveted shoes....).
Swap 'em - it's a better idea.
