Until recently we had some 747-136s that were built in the very early 1970s.
They were retired due their engines being unable to meet noise regulations.
So, whilst I might affectionately take the micky out of Boeings, there is no
doubt they are durable and reasonably well designed.

With the 777 a very serious effort has been made to consider
    maintainability, and it shows.
It is not yet perfect, and with a very complex machine such as an aeroplane
I doubt every system will ever be easy to work on, it is a very good start!
