is there anyone out there who can help?
I've tried to subscribe to the list through a different ISP and it's a no go.
I've sent messages to the list owner and had no reply... Bill are you there?
I'm doing nothing wrong that I can see, I have often subbed and unsubbed via

anyone else had problems subscribing which they resolved?
I really want to go over completely to my new provider and junk aol, but I
have to hang on yet simply so I can stay on the list :-(>

Jolly good handles that they are, these are not just handles. The primary
purpouse is that of bumpers to protect he rear lights. We used to use them as
towing points for towing out glider winch cables, and never broke one.

Hi,
Funny thing about the handles,
I've noticed the early wartime jeeps also had the handles. They even had
them on the sides. I've never measured them, but they look identical to ours.
They do give a small protection to the rear lights from things that are
straight up and down like walls.

Folks;

In desperation, I'm addressing the lro list, not the cso list (for once)!

For the last few months, I've been looking for a Series IIA or III, circa 1965
or later, 88in
w/overdrive, for my son, who's about to go away to college. He's buying this
one, so his
funds are limited - I've been looking for those around $7k or less, but have
found few - and
those that I did find were generally crap AND grossly overpriced, with frames
that could be
seen though and all the other problems associated with owners who ran them into
the ground and
SPOTs.

Although he'd like it if I were so generous, he doesn't get to buy the D90 from
me for
college, at least not yet!

So, I'm asking the list, if you all are aware of any 88s or 109s, Ser IIA or
III, that are for
sale, in road-worthy condition, that you'd trust your son's and/or daughters to
drive, and are
in the aforementioned price range, AND one day drive from New Jersey, to please
respond to
skidmore@monmouth.com.

Thanks to all in advance for the bandwidth,

Bill Skidmore

The

The ones on my car were hand made too. It is really easy for a sheet
metal shop with a welder to fabricate.

The ones tha came on the rear of my car sat where the lift handles sat on
ether side of the tail gate. The lower rear lights were moved up and
inside to provide clearence for the cans.

The front of my car had a different gerry can holder on each end of the
front bumper. Thei mount was in front of the wings. It held a gerry can
on it's back with the spout up. This let it sit under the front turn
signal lamps. Thr front gerry can mounts were part of a front roo bar.

There are a few pictures of this on my web site
(http:/www.cruzers.com/~twakeman).
Go to the Land ROver section, look for image gallery link labeled Green

It might still be difficult for a U.S. citizen to import stuff from Iran.

I'm going to move our thread over to the world wide LR mail list. I
think a lot of people may find it to be of interest and someone may be
able to contribute more information about these engines. They might be a
high performance drop in for LRs that came from the factory with 6 cyl
engines. With a little bulkhead work and moving the transmission frame
crossmember rearwards about 4 inches (10ish cm) it might be a high
performance upgrade for LRs that came with 4 cylinder engines. Of course
everything depends upon specs and parts availability.

Thanks & hopefully someone on the main list will be an expert on these
engines.

Howdy,
Cans named for Germans (Jerries), not someone named Gerald; hence jerry cans,
not Gerry cans.

Anyway, holders for 'em: Had mine made after destroying two fake-o versions
of the U.S. style gas can holder. The jerry cans will fit in U.S. holders,
but finding real ones ain't easy. I had a nifty holder made of 1/2" square
steel tubing by the local welders for all of $40 w/ nice, welded in bolt
attachments. I can try to describe it for anyone who cares. E-mail me
direct. It's been on the back door of my SW for about 2 years and has held
full cans over all kinds of terrain all the time (my fuel guage doesn't work,
so I always keep a full can) and hasn't complained a bit.

Well I am watching Sunday morning cartoons, a nice counterpoint to "Meet
the Press" and there is an episode of The Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries
and the episode where space aliens with a damaged space ship need to swipe
a part off of granny's nash metropolitan to make a field repair because the
part they need is out of stock. The aliens get their part but are busted
as underwear collecting space hooligans by a national park ranger driving a
very rover-like vehicle, especially up by the Series III light. I think
one of the writers was a rover person.

Last night was Halloween and while stocking up on candy at the local
discount store, I spy hotwheel miniature cars selling for 0.89 usd. So I
buy a bunch figuring I'll passem out to especially cute trickOtreaters. Go
check em out sports fans, relieve your youth, there was one 6x6 that looked
kinda roverish and also a unimogish one.

(oblig rover content over - non-pc commentary follows - you have been warned)

Well, golly shucks dang if none of them little blighters made the grade and
since I already tookthetoys outta the packaging, guess I can't return em so
I am stuck with them! I would have given the little twins in matching
babybearcub outfits cars but I was preoccupied checking out the *hot* Mama
bear.

Also most worthy of note was the bodsquad of mid-teenage girls that came by
dressed as harem girls (note to self, stock massage oil miniatures to give
out next year should these lolitas return) Dang, I wonder if one of them
is the girl across the street with the trampoline?

Oh Pierre, Duke of Derriere, if you are out there, this one's for you!

yes. I have been unable to get to the site by punching in the address. I get
the message from AOL onscreen that they never heard of the site. but maybe I
am doing something wrong? I can only get to the site using a find program as
opposed top going right to it. aol stinks.

Subject: Electric cooling fans

Now that I'm wrapping up the exterior of the hybrid (paint, wheel
arch extensions. etc), I'm ready to start waterproofing the engine. I
need some advice on what to do about the radiator.
Because I have no shroud and want to do some wading in the future, I
think that electric fan(s) will be the way to go.(float switch)
The measurements of my radiator are 24" wide X 16" tall. The
electric units come in 12, 14, and 16 inch sizes. I can either use one
16" unit and leave 4" on each side, or go with two 12" units and cover
the entire width but leave 2" on the top and bottom (or leave 4" on
either the top or bottom)
Would one 16" unit handle the 3.5 V-8 or should I go with two 12"
units? I'm leaning toward the two 12" because I'd rather be safe than
sorry and also because I live in south Ga. (ran it hard in 100 deg./99%
hum. w/ engine fan and no shroud and didn't run hot, though.....)
Any pro's/con's on the electric fans?

(Pay attention to those vibrations). I am definitely PRO anything that gets
rid of that clunky viscous clutch. Removing it makes working under the hood
safer and the engine more accessible. I placed mine on the back of the
radiator pulling through and I think this is more effective for cooling
because all of the air that goes through the fan has to come through the rad.
If you place them in front there is always some air that will be deflected
away from the rad. One thing I would like to do is fabricate a frame to hold
them in place and get the weight (minimal) off the radiator core. They work
quite well under any circumstances and I swear by them.

Me too! I never had jerry cans mounted in those holders. But they did
make good places to put stuff when I was working on or around the car.

Take care

Ahh I see. Well I am going to make gaurds for the lights them selfs. Maybe
place the handles inside the vehicle for passenger handholds during
offroading. Just a thought. Will probably just leave well enough alone.

The Handles/bumpers actually did come off the jeep for the prototype
Land Rover and worked well so they were continued exactly the same. It
takes a trained eye to tell them apart. I sold a set to a guy who was
restoring a ww2 jeep.

As part of my new Series website, I'd like to start collecting all of the
little bits of wisdom that come and go on the list. One section is devoted
to reference material for series vehicles. I'm lucky enough to have the
original Fairey OD manual, for instance, complete with a lot of good
schematics, etc. How many times has someone without a website posted that
they had a diagram of this or that? Well, if you do have something,
anything rather unique in regards to series vehicles and would like to get
it out on the web, let me know. Sales brochures, photos of rare or unique
equipment, anything. I also need some donor pictures for portions of the
site. If you have some you'd let me use, with due credit, I'd appreciate it
greatly. I need just about everything. If you don't have access to a
scanner, you can mail them to me and I'll scan and return. Anything Series
related I'm interested in putting on the site. Hopefully this site will be
my way of beginning to thank you for all the help and fun you've given me.
Thanks all!
