If you would like to make your own liner stuff I can supply the rubber
chips at $0.10 per pound + shipping and you get the Urathane.

Subject: Front End Vibration

I have a very unusual front end vibration. Only ever happens
when braking in a straight line, and not all the time. Sometimes
very slight hardly noticeable, but one time it was very pronounced.
Doesn't pull to one side or other, just shakes. Seems that both
wheels are vibrating together and not just one side or the other.
Ok, here is the info on my 109" SW. My '66 is not original
underneath. It is on a coil sprung chassis. It has new tires
and was aligned this past fall, so I don't suspect tire or
alignment problem. Might suspect wear in the steering box
but would think I would have noticed more vibration in all
conditions. I suspect I should start at the drop arm and look for
wear in the ball joint and the drag link.
Not necessarily related - has anyone install a steering
stabilizing/damper kit? Is it worth the cost? If I have to
replaced the drag link tube, I would consider adding a
damper kit.

While I am hear - Happy 50th to LR and congrats to Rick on
winning.

Cheers

I expect that the selector shaft has turned in the fork. This means
that you will have to remove the top from the gear box( remember the
pullout the spring loaded ball that is under a brass cap at the rear of
said top or it will escape to the nether regions of the gear box).
The fork is held in place on the shaft by a pinch bolt, remove this
and replace it with a new one as it will be damaged. There is a groove
for the bolt to sit in on the shaft.
all this can be done with the box in place.

What is the best trick for removing the said ball? As far as I remember
(from the last time I dismantled it, when I did lose it into the nether
regions...) it's at the bottome of a LONG hole!

It does a soul good to know that another Series rover will be taken care of.

My mother won the trip to Colorado from their dealership. She has graciously
agreed to allow my father and I to take the trip.

This makes up for not making the cut on the reservation we sent in.

I'd look at the hubs to see if they were loose. Jack up the front end and
grab either side of the wheel. See how much wobble is there. It should be
ALMOST none (a tiny hint of movement).

The hallowed green bible says to remove the spring and pack the hole with
grease to hold the ball in place until you remove the top and then can remove
the ball (now stuck in grease).

Subject: coils(ignition)

I was wonering if someone could explain teh differenced between the LR
series coils and other car coils, is one internally resisted and the
other externally? Which is which? and how do I wire in a non-landrover
coil if need be? (I have an external resistor will it work and where
does it wire in? between the coil and Dizzy or coil and ignition?)

thanks for straightening this out for me, my original coil(dated 7/64)
is having trouble and all I have on hand is a Bosch that says"use with
external resisrter" or some such thing as that...
Thanks again

I recently added a voltage stabilizer to my rover because I had upgraded
to a later model tank and sending unit, as well as non ether temp guage.
However I am not sure how to wire this in, it is marked "b" and"I" on
teh back, and has male and female electrical connectors, how do I
properly retrofit this to my rover? where does the electricity come into
it from? which end goes to the guages???

thanks again!

I hate to ask for a repeat of a recent thread, BUT; What are the serial
numbers for the 16" wheels on a Series Rover. I bought two at a scrap yard
that came off a 109, assumed they were the same. Lost track of which ones
were from the 109. Recently measured and they all appeared the same, but I
noticed two different numbers. So are there two different numbers for the
same size rims?

Thanks in advance

Not having seen your device, I'm *guessing* B for Battery and L for Load,
meaning the wire that attaches to B comes from the +ive on the battery and the
wire on L goes to whatever it is you want to have stable power...

I've got a some good clueless dealer anecdotes about the 50th Anniversary
thing at the dealers. I was invited to a couple of the local dealers to
display my Series III 88. When I called to confirm my reservation, the dealer
employee I spoke to said she had never heard that Land Rover had anything
called a "Series three and what did it look like ?". It was well received when
it got there and one fellow wanted to trade his brand new Disco for it (fat
chance). Upon leaving a bit early, another employee asked why we were going to
another dealer party that particular day I then asked if April 30th meant
anything to him. He replied: "It's the Grand Opening of our *Centre* today".
Then I told him about April 30th, 1948, he didn't have a clue.
Anyway so much for *heritage*, got some nice stuffed animals though.
