My D90 TDi CSW had a rear bulkhead and when I suggested removing it the
List's response was a big *no-no*
My 1998 D110 TDi CSW does *not* have a rear bulkhead!
Should I be worried and what should I do?

Peter Thoren is looking for additional heat.

The VW Golf heater matrix is almost exactly the same size as the Kodiak
Heater matrix it is a faily simple job to set up two in parallel by
dismantling the heater casing and fitting a short spacer. This will
increase the transfer of heat into the air passing through the heater
and thus into the cab. If you want the heat for the pups in the back try
fitting an extra heater with blower over one of the wheel boxes and pipe
it in parallel with the regular heater.

If it's a 109, one of the niftiest tricks I've seen was done by Robert
Davis. He bolted another heater core and blower to the underside of one of
the tool box lids and plumbed some 5/8" tubing back to it, complete with a
valve near where it taps into the existing heater plumbing. Flip a switch,
heat to the back. Cheers

Indeed. On one of my first trips in the Rover back is '72, I went to my
favorite ski area in Vermont, Jay Peak. Much powder snow had fallen and
towards the end, the crews had plowed a parking lot clear. However, the
winds and location of the trees had built up this drift kinda like a
Saharan sief dune (crescent-shaped) towards one end, easily 6 to 8 feet
tall...taller than the rover. There it was...all by itself. Bowing to
pressure from the three passengers (*always* a mistake) I got a running
start and punched through without incident. Once the "wow"s and "far out"s
subsided, one guy croaked, "what if there's been a VW in there, man?"
*That's* when I got scared. Cheers

Readjust your clutch pedal. Freeplay in the pushrod between the pedal
and master cylinder should be 1/16", which translates to 5/16" at the
pedal pad. If the master cylinder doesn't return fully and pressure can
build up. Lack of freeplay in the pushrod between the slave cylinder and
lever results in a worn throw-out bearing and/or clutch.

Subject: Wiring Diagrams

The Prince of Darkness snuck up behind me Sunday.

Baby is getting her new wiring harness. Unfortunately, the wiring diagram
for negative earth IIA in the Brooklands manual (OWM 895) is lacking a few
important bits, like the turn signals, the emergency flasher, the heater,
etc. Moreover, the reproduction is less than first class. It's the only
diagram in the book that has unreadable codes.

I think I have figured out the turn signals, but there are some bits that
completely mystify me. Does anyone have a good copy of the correct diagram
with readable color codes for turn signals, etc.? The one in the Brooklands
book has a green line that goes to #28, "Flasher lights feed."

Subject: surprise in the middle

I was working on the frameover for the 88" today and found quite the
surprise. The seatbox had been taken off several weeks ago but after
removing the bulkhead (Sawzall 1, rust 0) I was poking around contemplating
my next step. For whatever reason, I was looking under the body tub and saw
something poking out of one of the longitudinal reinforcing ribs under the
tub. To my incredible surprise, the original "window sticker" (if there was
such a thing in 1969) had been rolled up and stuck in one of these ribs.

Unfortunately, the RH half or third has long since gone but it's amazing
that this has survived for 29 years in New England. Listed on the paper are
the extras (E.1072 Rubber Pedal Pads, E1471 De-Luxe Front Sea, USA Interim
Wings, NADA (North American dollar area) Min Pack) the serial number and
the, I assume, 'item' number:S.2311 88 PET USA DETOX MK2 L.

Well, that made the most of a relativly frustrating day--what a piece of
history.

Either I dreamt this recently or I saw an article on Series steering wheel

this?

Subject: Land Rover Series IIA crankshaft?

Hi,

I'm just repairing my landy (series IIA, -67) 2,25 -petrol engine. Problem
was that the engine was so worn that I decided to change the old block.
Because in Finland good secondhand petrol -blocks are very rare I decided
to go same model diesel -engine block. The questions is that what is the
difference 3 -bearings crankshaft between diesel and petrol engines? I'm
thinking to use diesel -engine crankshaft instead petrol (the old one was
already once refined). I believe that diesel engine crankshaft are much
stronger and better made than petrol? I'm still making petrol -engine
(compress ratio 8:1), because our country diesel -tax policy.
