If you replace the U-joint on the front end of the rear prop. make sure you
position the grease nipple so that it faces toward the rear of the vehicle.
If it faces the brake drum there is not enough space to get the grease gun
nozzle on to the nipple.

Subject: So what would you do? Preparing 109 for sale.

I have a 1967 109 SW (4 cylinder) that I am going to part with. I want to
spend time and money
rebuilding a different 109. I am in the middle of frame over ande I need time
and money)

This is a 1967 which has about 60-70K original miles. To get it driveable, I
need to replace
front brakes and cylinders, Clutch flex hose, bled systems, tune engine and
replace exhaust (all in
process at this moment). At that point it will be driveable.

The frame is pretty darn good but it needs new rear member. The kickboards
should be replaced as
well.

My question is this. If I was going to keep this rover, I would do a complete
rebuild from bottom
to top. That is just the way I am. However, this could be a good running rover
with some simple
repairs as described above. I want to sell this sweetheart and let someone
have a very nice
project car and be able to drive it out of my barn and I want to maximize the
deal for us both.

What would you do to prepare this car for sale?

A) Don't sell it. DO a complete frame over.Wrong Answer, Want to buy a
Turner Engine and
Walking horse.

B) Sell it today jacked up in the middle of a brake job. (This is wrong answer,
just testing your
honesty and integrity.

C) Finish brake, exhaust and clutch job and sell as is and let owner decide
what to do about rear
frame member and firewall repairs.
D) Do the above plus rear frame member and piut in replacement kickboards and
functional firewall
repairs.
E) Forget about it and let is sit in my barn for eternity.

Wooooo is that ever a no-brainer. You simply tell him that your PRIZED,
very valuable rover is your every day transport and that if he wants to
display it he has to provide you with the FREE use of the RR, Disco,

for the time that your rover is on display. We'll be waiting on your

A little creative grinder work could be utilised to eliminate that center
pillar. Then you
could have your local glass company hack out a piece of laminated safety glass
to
the appropriate dimensions. To me, it seems a rather brutal thing to do, but it
would
keep those pesky trees from sneaking up on you from your blind spot.

This is Bill "Bob" Gates' way of inducing us to use Internet
Explorer for all of our e-mail. Besides formatting html commands,
I believe it recognizes and allows for hotlinks to email addresses
and web pages in email. Of course it also fails to pick up its own
trash and spews it out all over the internet into everyones mailbox
not set up for browser email. Thanks Bob.. err, Bill!!

Only questions asked are a valuation and a Bill of Sale

No need to hire an overseas export company. Just have the seller

When Mr. Churchill, my 109, was a Diesel long ago some moronic sod had
rigged him with a pair of 12-volt batteries - one under the bonnet and a
tractor battery (think HUGE!!!) under the driver's seat in the locker.

This worked well - I could crank that sucker all day and the batteries
wouldn't run down. However, the poor little 20-amp dynamo would charge them
- in about a week....

In other words, yes it's feasible. However, a large modern battery under
the bonnet will suit you far better than the 2 series 6-volt jobs that
Rover originally called for. Think "cable voltage drop..."

On the third hand (got too near to TMI-1 in the 1970s...)a double battery
setup with a split charger and a modern alternator will certainly give you
winching power or cranking amps in spades.

I converted to a one piece screen by simply cutting out the central bar, then
having a piece of laminated glass cut to size to fitt the frame. This has been
in situ for two years now with no problems. If you do this do not have the
glass cut to fitt too tight in the frame, leave at least one eighth of an inch
all round and fill with mastic. Otherwise heat expansion will crack the glass.

From: rogers <rogers@batnet.com>

Hello all.

Anyone out there have a great source for BFG Mud Terrains? Apparently,
the labor strikes in the BFG manufacturing plants and Michelin's purchase
of BFG has put the M/T's in short supply, especially the 255/85R16's I'm
looking for. I anyone can think of a store that might have these in stock
or in their distribution pipe, please let me know. My understanding is
that these tires are on national backorder from Michelin and that they're
not even scheduled for production for another two months.

Also, does anyone have alternate tire suggestions for a D90 with an OME
lift and SG drop kit? I'm considering Dunlop's Radial Mud Rover, but I
have to believe that there is a better product out there. Any Suggestions?

My first battery is under the driver's seat, and it has done just fine there
for a while, now. I'm wondering about where to put the 2nd one. The engine
compartment is not an option, nor a consideration. Probably it will go under
the passenger's seat.

It all depends on how much your 90 will be in the mud, realistically. I went
throught this whole process just recently, I must have looked at
www.tirerack.com 20 times; looking at costs, tire heights, treads, etc.

I too wanted M/Ts. I saw SG's demo 110 pix with the 33 inch M/Ts and dreamed
about them for about two minutes before I realized that even the mud in the
everglades I sometimes get into wasn't enough to justify them. I would have
liked to have a set of SG's XCLs as well. Bottom line, end-result of the whole
debate: I eventually got some BFG TracEdges, based on the overwhelmingly
positive reaction on them from this list. The ones I got were as tall as the
7.50R16s but just a wee bit wider. Had 'em put on last week and love 'em.

They've got the M/T pattern, without the noise. I like them better than the
A/T's too.

Now that I have them, I think I will order some new wheels and put strictly
off road tires on those. I'm waiting to see what Yokohama's M/T competitor
will look like.

ps: the reason I didn't consider the Dunlop RMR was the purely personal
opinion that I think it looks funny to have a tire with your car's name on it
under your car: ie, a Land Rover with "Mud Rover" tires or a Jeep Wrangler
with "goodyear Wrangler" tires...

A few months ago my sons decided to order take out Chinese food, they
were in beautifull downtown Oshawa, and volunteered Gavin to pick it up.

Gavin jumped into Murphy and drove away, only to notice as he turned on
to the main street a Durham Region police car behind him.As he turned on
to the street to the restaurant all hell broke loose. Lights flashing
siren blaring.....Get out of the car......put your hands in the
air.....Police person with gun drawn........WALK BACKWARDS....Keep your
hands in the air NOW........Another police car screams around the
corner, then another ,then another, then the Swat team van blocks off
the end of the street. Gavin still standing in the street with his hands
in the air. Don`t move..... police frisk him. Cuff him. Other Gendarmes
are searching Murphy. Find ammo box tool box under seat.WHATS IN THIS
!!!! Tttttooools says Gavin. Crowds gathering.WHERES THE GUN. I ,I, I
don`t have a gun says Gavin, buttocks tightly clenched... other
gendarmes pulling stuff out of the back of Murf........WHATS THIS.!!!
says one pulling out the ex mil. cammo coloured tool roll. WHATS IN THIS
GUN ROLL !!!! It It It Isn`t a gun roll squeeks Gavin .Gendarmes begin
to calm down, talk to Gavin. Very sorry old boy ....mistaken identity
and all that.
It turned out there had been an armed hold up nearby and a witness said
the perpetrator escaped in a blue JEEP !!!!! a blue JEEP !!!! You thick
plods. An 88 as a get-away vehicle yea that would do it. Now I know
that the Great Train Robbers used a Series I. but I ask you really ,I
mean really.

A few months ago I was able to do some minor job or other on my 93LWB Cty
myself because I was able to decode the on-board diagnostic info under the
right front seat and translate the code. I mentioned this to Land Rover of
Scottsdale on my next service visit. Today I popped the right front
seatbase cover to look at the same onboard diagnoistic computer and was
really surprised. The gizmo under there now has no screen. Either plastic
can regrow like starfish legs or the folks at the service department
decided I was getting too much information. And I always thought that if
you bought it, you owned it, and somebody needs your permission to change
it.
Question 1: Would you be angry?
Question 2: What would you do about it?

Subject: Land Rover Owners in Cork Ireland?

Hello,

I am in Cork this week for work (I should have posted earlier, but it took
me a while to get my email working here :)

Are there any LROs in the area who would like to get together some evening?
Better yet, anyone going out for a drive tomorrow (Sunday)?

1) Hell yes!

2) See the service manager ASAP and DEMAND that the unit be put back the
way it was (if that's what you want). You make the payments; you decide
what happens. If there was an upgrade or change, you should have been
informed. Be cool, be icy calm be the immovable object. If there's no joy,
ask for the number of your regional Land Rover service rep.

3) Scottsdale has a pretty good reputation overall. Odds are good it's a
mistake that they'll make right!

Fred,

Angry...Probably not!, misstrustfull of the local LR dealer...Very much
so!...I'd go and demand an answer from the GM or owner. The ability to
service your own vehicle..especially if beyond warrenty has been impeaded!
Get the original equipment replaced!

Hmm, what are blobs that hang off bottoms called?

Thanks John, this sounds like a neat trick. I've been wondering what
the hell I am going to do to mine (minimising effort, of course).

I'll try it next weekend or so...
