Depends on what you mean by "nicee" but I don't think there are too many
people on the list who wouldn't generally fall under the catagory of
"nice". Why did you leave in the first place? Does an open forum for
discusion on a general topic frighten you? People do have other interests
other than rovers which will sometimes come out in a post. If you left
because of a flame-fest that bruised your fragile feelings, or if someone
said something that was a touch un-p.c. that left you feeling hurt, I'd say
welcome back and I hope the time away gave your skin a time to thicken up.

Subject: Advertising on the Lists

Hi All,
As you know I've had my say about advertising on the list at various
times, the last being recorded in LRO Digest 25 Jan 1997 (msg 52), URL:
Year-1997/970125.html#52

Over the past year, readers on the web have seen PSA (Public Service
Announcements), and due to my inertia, that has mostly been a banner for
the OVLR Birthday Party. However if you've visited the Web Archives or
read the digest on the Web, then recently you've noticed a plug for one
of the apares vendors. On the e-mail digests, it has looked like this:

  + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + with thanks to +
  + +

  + +
  + Tel: +1.800.533.2210 Fax: +1.518.664.6641 +

  + for additional information see http://www.roverparts.com +
  + +
  + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + tell 'em you saw it here +

Now, I'm writing for two reasons, one is to let you know that
this is happening, and to let you know what the real-time readers may
expect in the form of advertising. (For LRO & RRO real-time readers are 26%
and 37%, respectively, of the subscribers of the lists.) What the real-time
readers may expect is to receive a once-per week message through the list
with the text form of all the ads (as above), and I'll probably throw in the
usual subscribe/unsubscribe info, 'cause a large number of real-time
subscribers just don't seem to remember how to do that when the time
comes. That doesn't sound too intrusive or painful now does it ?

In general, the terms of advertising for list readers or potential
it defines what types of advertising are being offered, in terms of
placement, delivery, rotation, and some audiance statistics. Any principles
who desire to advertise on the lists, my contact me at wpc@caloccia.net

As before, unsolicited commercial advertisements e-mailed in bulk, aka SPAM,
(Rover related or not), are inappropriate for this list. [Also see the

At present we're blocking some 400 domains and user names from sending to
the lists, and removing the same from the digest archives, as we notice them.
Any spammer gets added to the blocked list* AND since the beginning of 1998,
we're also sending Invoices for spam which slips through, as per the rates
we'd collect, unless we receive judgements in small claims court.
(* BRITISHNW ended up on that list, for it's last commercial post, by the
way, which is why, you've seen nothing fromthem for months on the
	real-time list.)

In addition, I'm working on new technology to detect spam in the input
stream and intercept it before it is redistributed via the real-time
lists, however, as it is a new technology, I'm unsure what the 'false'
rate will be, wo we're proceeding with caution.

As before, we also ask that clubs only use the list to notify THE PUBLIC
of upcoming events, and not to use the lists as a means to communicate
with their MEMBERS ONLY. Such use has not put any one on the SPAM-eater
list yet, but if such abuse continues, it will.

For any individual or groups which wish to have private mailing lists,
web sites, etc. that is not in the realm of the Team.Net charter, and
WWW.Land-Rover.Team.Net is not the place for that to occur.

That said (wearing a different hat) I have no problems working with said
individuals or groups to obtain domain names, provide Domain Name Services,
Mail Services, or Web Site hosting, via my association with Dan Senie
Consulting, a long time computer resource donator/supporter of Team.Net,
including the hosting of www2.land-rover.team.net. I believe the rates
at DSC are competitive and we can offer most any services requried at a
reasonable fee. Principles may contact my self (wpc@caloccia.net) for
further information.

Turned out that after the engine fire, I did not connect the

Took about 15 stalls until I noticed the ice cubes in the carb...

Hi John and Bruce,
Thanks for your advice.

>Check the seal in the carb that is found underneath the jet.
Last night, I rebuilt the carb, a Zenith Stromberg 175 CD 2S. Problem
persisted. This morning, I changed the sparking plugs, condenser, contact
breaker, electrical fuel pump, reset the ignition timing dynamically,
readjusted my mixture with the aid of a CO meter.

An interesting observation: the spark plugs from cylinders #1, 2 and 3 are
slighty sooty, while plugs from cylinders #4, 5 and 6 are clean and white.
All plugs are changed 4000km ago and the gaps look within tolerance.

The engine now idles beautifully, but the misfiring still continues. In fact
it is getting worse - it misfires on heavy acceleration even on level
surfaces. Arrrrgh! Tomorrow, I'm going to replace the plug wires. Hopefully
that will solve the problem.

Cheers!

LROs and Mendo_Reccians:

It's now official so I can tell you that Foers Engineering plans to bring
the Ibex to the U.S. market. In partnership with Cosworth (drivetrain) and
Birkin (Manufacturing facilities in South Africa), Foers is planning to
import a modified version of the Ibex officially into the United States.
When? Soon, I think! Land Rover content? Of that I'm not quite sure.
Drivetrain is to be mostly Ford/Cosworth (four-cam/24-valve V-6 engine and
choice of four-speed auto or 5-speed manual gearbox) but axles and
suspension may still have some Land Rover parts.

Official press release may be found here:

	http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/pbrad/news.htm

The press release should help clear up questions many have had about the
relationship between the Foers Ibex and Eurasia Motors' "EMC Gazelle" as well.

Cheers and huzzahs!

Granny

PS Appologies for the cross post for those on both lists.
I resisted posting to the RRO list.

Errr... doesn't it stand for twin carb??? Coz twin choke could mean
something like a 28/36 DCD Weber which is a twin choke, but single carb. Or
is this the trans-atlantic translation?? Anyway...

I replaced my Timing Chain, Tensioner Pad and Idler Sprocket: NO
IMPROVEMENT!!!
Here's what I did:

1. Set the Crankshaft Keyway to Vertical (this corresponds to TDC on the
flywheel, as seen through the stand-on-your-head peep hole in the
	Flywheel Housing.)

2. Set the Camshaft Keyway to 2:00
NOTE: This being an EARLY II-A engine, there is NO "P" mark, as
stated in the Haynes manuel. All it has is an Inner Sproket
Spline-to-Camshaft Keyway mark. Using as reference the
mechanical drawing in the Haynes manuel that depicts the location
of the outer "P" Mark in relation to the Inner Spline Mark, I
projected the Inner Spline Mark to the corresponding tooth then
counted back (counterclockwise) eleven (11) teeth and marked that
tooth "P." I then aligned this mark/tooth with the bolt
hole in the block, as instructed in the haynes manuel.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this set up?

Semih writes for advise on an underpowered diesel.
You state that the engine has been rebuilt, by whom ? The diesel requires
the valve timing to be good, the condition of the gear that drives the
injector pump is also critical, excessive wear on the worm can cause timing
irregularities. The valve timing instructions in the manual should be
carefully followed.
Timing of the injector pump is also a critical ingredient, the book gives
some nominal settings, then it is necessary to tune it by ear, adjust the
pump a small amount at a time until the engine has a real knock tio it, then
retard it a little, Because of the ratio of the gear and chain a very small
movement of the pump can have a significant effect on the timing, a test of
a good diesel is 48 mph flat out, on the governer in third gear.
 valve clearances are 0.010 " ( 0.25 mm ) hot or cold.

Way back in my somewhat more youthful days around '76-'80, I had a '71 88 with a Zenith
carb. 15-17mpg was my usual mileage. In about 1980 I sold it, partly because of the
mileage (I was at the time an impoverished student) but mostly because of a cracked
block. Regret at selling it dogged me from then on and finally around the end of last June I
picked up a 1970 IIa 88 in Wyoming. A bit of a dog at first, I've got it running pretty dang
well (a tune up, a blown head gasket replaced, and a bit of general tinkering here and
there). However, I seem to be getting around 12-13 mpg.The PO had installed a Weber
34ICH, about which I know relatively little. The Haynes book for Weber Carbs only covers the
2 bbl models. I'm wondering what other folks with 34ICHs on their 2.25 engines have for jetting
recommendations, particularly for my altitude west of Denver around 6500' and up. Any
thoughts appreciated.

I presume that you are running rich? You ought to be, if you are only
getting 12 or 13 mpg and the engine is in good shape. I don't know what
the jetting should be, but it almost certainly ought to be leaner, given
your altitude. Take jet that you have out, and fit a leaner one (smaller
number.) You can probably make a pretty big jump the first go, say from
160 to 140. From there, adjust as you need to, making changes in 5
increments.

Is there any chance it is fuel vaporisation? Is the fuel pump on the side
of the engine in a Lada? If so, it might be getting too hot and boiling the
fuel off. Try pouring cold water over the pump. I've seen cold cans of

Subject: advert sightings

I expect everyone else has already seen these, but I flipped the
television on for an hour or so the other day so I could see Billy Gates
get a pie in the face, and saw two advertisments with Land-Rovers in them.
I thought it very odd. One was for Singapore Airlines which has a brief
shot of a SII/early IIA 109 at the end. The other was for some cosmetic,
where a topless SII/ early IIA plays a more prominent role.
