Potentiometers don't generally change resistance- they just get a break in the circuit somewhere, so I would use any sender that shows a resistance that changes smoothly throughout the range. I suppose it's possible that a different resistance was used in different years, but with a little creativity, you can get around that- If the guage doesn't go full scale, you would put a resistor in parallel with the sender, or if it gets pegged, you would put a resistor in parallel with the guage. If you need more info on how to do this, let me know. Thanks, and merry christmas! > Braman I have had up to 0.12" shaved off of a LR 2.25-l petrol head, and have heard of as much as 0.2" being taken off. That may be about the limit, though. Removing over about 0.1" brings on a problem, however, as the push-rod/docker arm geometry gets distorted. You actually get to a point where the push-rods are too long and the valves cannot be adjusted properly. This can be remedied by using spacers under the rocker-shaft supports, or by having new push-rods custom made. Merry Christmas to all! From: Alan_Richer/CAM/Lotus@lotus.com Date: Wed, 24 Dec 1997 09:04:52 -0500 Subject: Re: Shaving 2.25 heads: Re: Pushrod length: Something I learned about recently (thanks to Bill Maloney) is that the 7:1 and 8:1 engines had different pushrod lengths. The 8:1 pushrod is (incidentally enough) .1" shorter than the 7:1 rod. It's actually quite noticeable - I just put a 7:1 head on Mr. Churchill and had to adjust the rocker screws by an appreciable amount from their original positions. If you're going to go to the extent of doing .2" shaving (that's a lot to take off a casting!) then you might want to go with the 8:1 rods if you originally started out with a 7:1 engine. The other thing you'll need to watch out for is the rockers hitting the inside of the valve cover at that angle of depression... ajr ------------------------------[ <- Message 4 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 971225 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

Use shim stock though, flat washers wouldn't be too good. I wouldn't shim up the whole 100 thousandths, just enough to make the pushrods serviceable till the new ones come in. Merry Christmas! From: lndrvr@ldd.net (BRIAN WILLOUGHBY) Subject: Fairey Overdrive Stickers Date: Wed, 24 Dec 1997 18:59:58 -0600 Hello to everybody. Anyone who knows me is aware that I usually conjure up some unique questions. Not to spoil the tradition, here's my latest pursuit. In "Land-Rover 1948-1984: A Collector's Guide" by James Taylor, there is a picture of the rear end of a Series II or IIA with an oval sticker which proclaimed that the vehicle was equipped with a Fairey Overdrive. The photo shows the sticker with the wording "Overdrive by Fairey" surrounding what looks to be a cat's head. Does anyone know if these stickers are still available or if anyone has reproduced them? Thanks to everyone in advance for their help. There are Overdrive by Superwinch stickers. I don't know if they are available.
