Subject: LROi Nov & Dec

Strange thing here, I waited and waited for the Nov LROi and it finally
shows up friday, then I Dec shows up yesterday. I have never gotten a
copy delivered so late or so early ( Net 0 )

I was kinda miffed when I was looking at Nov, I may be out of line
here, But it kinda looked like a big ad for "Safari Gard". I
understand ARB gets a lot of press too, but they do make functional
equipment, at a reasonable price. Safari Gard, to me, just makes "bolt
on technology" i.e. armor plating, so BIG DEAL. WHY ALL THE PRESS? And
why does their trendy looking crap cost so damn much? I might be
interested if they would incorporate some sort of function, like
curb/stump feelers sticking out from their "Sliders" ( OH YEAH, THATS
IT ). As for me and my money, I think I'll just spend mine on 90wt and
7.62 shells for my AK-47.

Happy Thanksgiving and God Bless our families

Hi: Regarding the Pertronix, I have one in both my Land-Rover and
Austin-Healey and have been very pleased. The module replaces the
distributor point assembly with minimum work and is is completely sealed
against water, oil etc. Activation is by means of a lobed magnetic rotor.
Besides the ground connection created by the installation within the
distributor, there are only two wires going to the coil. As long as you
aren't color blind the red and black leads properly connect to the coil.
Vehicle must be negative ground configuration. Since the spark output may
be higher, I found it advantages to also install new plug/distributor leads
and check/adjust the timing with a strobe light as well.

Good luck and Rover on,

One of the theories behind water injection is that, apart from the
cooling effect of latent heat, the water droplet's rapid evaporation in
to steam causes a more thorough mixing of the fuel/air and thus improved
combustion. An extension of this theory is to introduce the water with
the fuel by combining petrol, alcohol and water at the tank. Part of the
problem with alcoholized fuels is that depending on the variety of
alcohol and water content the mixture can separate into petrol and
alcohol/ water instead of remaining intimately mixed. I had an eccentric
acquaintance once, who claimed to run his vehicle with 30% water in the
tank by adding alcohol to get it dissolved in the petrol.

What size jet should you use in your Rochester for this mixture?

Will it run better when gas line antifreeze is used to carry away
winter's condensation?

That is exactly what one would do.

You can use any misting sprayer you have handy. I use a manual spray
bottle made for household cleaning products. An old window cleaner bottle
would be perfect.

Just remove your air cleaner/hose at the carb. and vigorously spray mist into
the throat while reving' around 2500-3000 rpm. If you've got pinging due to
carbon you'll hear the difference quickly. A minute or two total is all I do.

Cools the intake charge among other things, quite useful in some applications
and useless in others.

The last time I was impressed with myself for overtaking another vehicle it
was a Ford pickup truck that I passed on the freeway. My clutch then
/immediately/ died. I got towed away by a Ford that, with a 20ft ramp and 150
gallons of diesel and my 109 on board, accelerated onto and away down the
highway faster than my truck -ever- will.

Hi All:

Anyone know for sure what the stop/tail,parking and
turn signal lights should be on a 66 IIA SWB Export
Right Hand Drive? The truck was originally bought on the
island of St Thomas. It has European style headlamps, flush
on the breakfast without the protruding chrome rings.
The PO put on some really crappy looking NAPA style trailer
lamps.

Are the turn signals amber or clear on the front? Amber or
red on the rear? Turn signals on the top or bottom on the
stern?

Thanks,

The pertronix is relatively impervious to water, but water under the cap is
still no good for ignition. Of all the units I've sold and used, I've seen
only one failure; mine! Three of the four magnets and the inner part of the
ring containing them had slipped down the distrib shaft and weren't turning.
Pansy was running on one cylinder, and even idling. When the replacement gets
here, I'm going to glue the mag ring halves together.

When you remove the cables from a battery they almost invariably spark; a
battery being charged emits almost pure oxygen and almost pure hydrogen.
It's a bomb. They blow up. really, really badly. Spraying bits of
plastic, lead, and sulphuric acid everywhere. ALWAYS connect the charging
lead to the battery first, THEN connect the earth lead. To a part of the
engine block, preferably. when the vehicle starts, remove the earth lead
first, the spark will occur where it's much safer for sparks to occur,
away from the battery. Been there, done that, seen it, it's not a pretty
thing. Really good way to lose an eye or worse.
