Subject: LR Fastners...

Hello Donald,

This would be run by Anthony "Tony" Arnold. He is a very nice guy and
knows his Rovers . I've purchased various fastners from him at his stand
at the annual ARC rally and intend to do so again this year. I consider
his stand, Craddock's used parts attic and the LRO Supermarket in
Liverpool/Merseyside? (my memory is failing me on this one) to be my 3
most educational "rover parts" view experiences. But, then I haven't been
to the Sodbury jumble...

Aloha

OK, guys. I think this is more than a minor inconvenience (and no, I'm not
going to suggest an exorcist!). I had a twitchy combo ignition/light switch on
my '65 IIA. Eventually, it took the wiring harness. Since I didn't know what
caused the initial problem, I took part of replacement wiring harness, too. I'm
still tracking down voltage drops, etc. from that fiasco. My suggestion is if
you have a twitch ignition switch, buy a new one. RN is the only place I've
been able to find them in North America. However, I'm sure British Northworst
has them. If you're a millionaire, get it from them. Otherwise, call RN, and
get a new switch. Be advised, however, that the switch ain't exactly cheap from
RN, either. I promise, you don't want to let this one lie.

Fellow Listers: I heartily agree with the fine sentiments that Adrian Redmond
posted the other day. My basic approach to the 'net is not to do or say
anything to anyone else that I wouldnt do face to face. Which means that if
one is a jerk anyway it will show, but we shouldnt hide behind our computer
and project a personality thats not truly ours to begin with. Do unto others
etc. is indeed the Golden Rule.
As "pub stories" did I ever mention the time I installed a 2.6 NAS 6 cyl. in
a Ferguson tractor? No, then how about the time, when cooking road kilt
kittens on the exhaust manifold of my old SIIA, the increased flow from the
new K&N sucked the toasted varmint right through. Fortunately it did no
damage, in fact the residual moisture in the old furball may have helped
de-coke the head! Well, with the money I saved in the improved fuel economy
from the K&N, the locking hubs, and the magic fuel depolarizer, I was able
to buy that M-1 Garrand I always had my eyes on. Enough. Keep your truck with
the muddy side down, the rpms below 4200, and Rover on! Cheers. Andy Blackley

Subject: D90 racing seat!!!
Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 09:45:30 PST

I have a driver's side "racing" seat for any D90. The style can be seen
on "http://www.corbeau.com", look for the "GT 7" model. The seat allows
a "racing" harness to be use, ie 2 shoulder straps with a lap belt. The
seat is new and has NEVER been installed or used. It is made in grey
leather and matches the grey in the D90. It is a direct "bolt" in for
the OEM seat with its own mounting bracket. The seat is of VERY high
quality and the mount is powdercoated wrinkle black. These are similar
to the Recaro seats ( I think better, as I have had both).

I am selling my D90, and I had never installed the seat so I do not want
to sell it with the truck. OEM seats are $650 each. I paid $850 for
this one. I can sell for $700 plus shipping.

I also have a Simpson racing harness that would go perfect with this.
Also new, 3" webbing, red, center cam-lock in anodized aluminum. The 2
shoulder straps come together to form a "Y" and this would bolt to the
roll bar directly behind the seat. The lap belt bolts where the current
belts are.

If there is any interest please do not hesitate to e-mail me!!

I just went through this with the Rhino ( part of my latest battle with =
the Prince of Darkness ). For the motor & switch used in a '70 SIIa =
system the following will work:

The switch should in fact be on the positive side of the flow:

	1) Switched power from your newly installed 10 gang fuse box ( the =
Exersity Part I ) is delievered via a nice green wire to terminal #4 of =
the switch. This same power is supplied to terminal # 4 on the wiper =
motor.
	2) A brown & light green wire connects switch terminal #3 to motor =
terminal #2.
	3) A red & light green wire connects switch terminal #2 to motor =
terminal #5.
	4) A balck & light green wire connects switch terminal #1 to motor =
terminal #3.

The park system works as follows. The direct power supplied to the motor =
is return to the the switch via a cercuit that is broken when the wiper =
arm comes to the parked possition. At switch the slow speed is powered =
by two sources, the power supplied from the fuse block when the slow =
speed is sellected and a return power feed from the wiper motor. when =
the switch is turned to the off possition, the motor still recieives =
power until the arm reaches the parked possition and the curciut is =
broken.

I derived the the wire scematic from trail and error under the dashboard =
after my electrical fire this summer.

If you have any question please e-mail me direct at work for fast =
response. (jputnam@whpacific.com)

Andy How did you make out with that 2.6/ferguson conversion? I used the

Subject: Braking down

Driving home in the driving rain the other day, I had to hit the brakes
kinda hard to avoid a knucklehead who didn't care to stop for a stop sign.
One of the rear brakes started juddering; I've had that happen before, when
a small section tore loose and would bind up when the brakes were applied.
As pedal was still hard and it wasn't *too* much of a problem, I drove home,
gently applying the brakes as needed.

Well, today (the first sunny day) I pulled the drum to see what's what. Not
only had a small piece torn loose, *both* linings had separated from the
shoes just as neat and clean as you please. (Well, I had gotten 55,000
miles out of these shoes.) If I was in the Ottawa Valley club, this might
qualify for the "I can't believe it still ran" award.

I'll carry the shoes in for rebonding on Monday, but I can't remember the
thickness of the lining material. Two or three times ago, I didn't specify
thickness and got stuff that was *too* thick. Spent the afternoon with a
belt sander and a bandanna making it right (and if I ever craok from
asbestosis, you know the reason). So, what is a concensus on brake lining
material? Cheers

their purpose? If they are condensers will the kind of condenser that fits

Thanks to all who helped me out with the fuel system problems on the Series
IIa. As it turned out, I think the fuel line between the tank and the pump
had some gunk in it (some residue from the new gas tank no doubt). I also
had to replace the positive battery cable.

Now I have another problem! I cannot engage two-wheel drive high! I hear a
whirring sound--and the speedo needle moves--but the thing isn't moving.
Could something have siezed up in the transfer box during the 90 days this
thing sat idle waiting for a new gas tank?

I ran into this a few years back on John Marenakos' red 66 s2 swb. If anyone
sees John, up around Martha's Vineyard, tell him I said hi.
The truck wouldn't shut off. I traced this to the ignition contacts in the
switch in the center of the light switch. I took it apart, being careful not
to let it throw little bits everywhere, and cleaned everything. Then, I put
the electrical part together again, but bent the two tangs out, instead of
in, like it had been manufactured thirty years ago. I can't remember the
exact configuration, but it was self explanatory, once it was apart.

They never *stopped*. MTBE (methyl tetra butyl ether) is added to fuel
year-round now. It does reduce mileage (not MPG), as you have to stop to
rebuild your carbureator. The only advantage to oxygenated fuels is to
enrich the coffers of a few very wealthy corporations.

Note that Jim suggests jucicious application of water, not aiming the
garden hose at the air intake. Very large amounts of water can cause
hydraulic lock.

The early 60's turbocharged Corvair Monza used a factory standard
water/alcohol injection system to prevent detonation. I believe there
was a turbocharged Olds F85 or Buick 215 V8 of the same vintage which
also used water/alcohol injection.

Probably a radio noise suppression condenser. Might even be the official
LR optional radio suppresor kit. Unless you have a radio are not
required. BTW, the condenser in the distributor serves a different
funcition and is required.

Subject: Re: Freelander

I remember seeing a Ford Escort AWD rally vehicle at the British Car Day show
at Chateau Elan a few years back. I was impressed, but I disdain Ford for
lumping all vehicles they ever badged 'escort' into one pot, for the sake of
marketing. This was way better that the little deathtraps they sell here.
(Almost makes me miss the pinto and the cortina).
Could it be that what LR has done with the freelander has been to raise the
bar for AWD rally sedans? The folks at Lode Lane are really missing an
opportunity, if they don't field a team, soon. Maybe those of us driving LR
trucks are judging too quickly.
Hmmmm, six or seven speed with deep low first and second and OD 5th, 6th
and 7th? Turbocharged, intercooled, diesel?
Where *do* we want to go today?
Cheers!!

I have started renovating my original duel wiper motors today 11-15-97. My
question is what are the two (condenser) looking gizmos that attach to each
motor and are mounted on the windscreen? If they are condensers what is
their purpose? If they are condensers will the kind of condenser that fits
in the dist. work as a replacement?

Bill Adqams asked this a while back and no one had an answer. I have since
seen it in the SIIa-III Optional Parts Catalogue. I forget what their
called, but my copy is out on loan right now. I'll be happy to look it up
for you when i get it back.

They are only duel motors if they shoot at each other. ;-)
