I was at a local speed shop today in Sydney (Australia) and I picked up a
brochure from a US company called Painless Wiring.

If you are into putting in more switches and fuse blocks etc, check them
out.
Their stuff might be pricey but for NAS readers, it could be worthwhile.

<< t the very great risk of unleashing "Nigel's Disease" upon the assembled
masses, I'd like to know what happened. I've only seen one 2.25 physically
break, and that's when my brother's '66 88 suffered a collapsed valve spring

and it ate a valve. >>

On the engine I'm presently rebuilding, the exhaust valve on cylinder 4 was
driven through the piston (found it in the oil pan) and froze the engine with
piston 4 jammed in the cylinder, hole through the top and the side of the
piston cracked. Amazingly, the conrods and crank are fine. (Block is too!)

You may have the glow plug wire on the wrong terminal of the switch. The
plugs come on when the switch is at position 1. If this is not
happening, recheck all connections and ground. I hope you have the
correct wiring diagram at hand.

Can't speak for others but I only torque engine and transmission components
and steering components (drop arm nut and nuts that hold the steering box).
I'm less worried about hub nuts and prop shaft nuts.

what about injectors? I worry about mine constantly. They have to be
torqued at 8-10Nm according to the manual and I figured that this is
important, because if you make the one side a little tighter than the
other, it might leak. Or am I over-paranoid?

Buy two torque wrenches---one for the big stuff; one for the smaller
poundage torques. I managed to break four hub bolts using an expensive
Craftsman torque wrench.

I keep getting a problem where the coolant overflow tank on my '90
appears to overflow. After the last time I left it and although the
overflow tank is empty (should it be?) and there are sizzling sounds
from under the bonnet the temperature does not rise above normal.

Can anyone suggest why this might be ?

Cheers

Several people have expressed an interest in making this a monthly
thing, and October 8th has been suggested as the next date (second
Wednesday of the month). I say let's go for it.

John Harvard's Brew House on October 8th, 7:30 PM. First person there
should make a seating reservation under BSROA so that it will be
easier for late arrivers to find the group. Based on our last visit
there, I suggest we park in the main mall parking lot and enter John
Harvard's through the back entrance. If anyone would like to meet
earlier, post a message letting the others know when you'll arrive.

Thank you for all the suggestions on the problems with my starter motor.
You guys are really knowledgeable. Being a young Series rover owner in a
sea of J**ps is hard in Texas. Everybody asks in the strongest King of the
Hill (fill in TX accent if you dont have access to US TV) accent "Whatha
Hell is that. Isat one them Marlon Perkins trucks. Betcha cant pull a 30 ft
cattle trailer you little whippersnapper". You see the environment I forced
to deal with. No one, I mean no one can ever answer my Questions. I find
almost everything ya'll (thats TX slang) very informative. Thanks once
again. Steve

OK, gang, one last time: the Mid-Atlantic Rally, the largest gathering of
the faithful on the continent this year, is two weeks away - October 3-5.
>Rover owners are the most independent sorts on the planet and *rarely* plan
things ahead of time...which makes planning an event of this sort a bloody
nightmare. But we need to know if you're coming, and if you want to get
fed, you gotta' send in some bucks.

The site is Penlan Farm in Buckingham County, VA, situated 2 miles west of
US RT 15 on county route 671. The 671 turn off is about 7 miles south of
the US Rt 15 bridge over the James River.

Each event has a theme and honors a particular vehicle. This year, it is
"Elegance in the Rough" and features the Range Rover. For Saturday night,
there will be a 'creative black tie' affair under the big top: appetizers
(bacon wrapped scallops, puff pastries, chicken kabobs, seafood stuffed
mushrooms) followed by your choice of grilled ribeye steak or salmon. A
jazz band provides accompaniment. We will be serving up three kegs from
Legend (a micro in Richmond): porter, brown ale and an IPA.

Because the site is so remote, we need to now how many mouths were are going
to feed PDQ. Please fill out the following form and snail mail it back with
you cheque ASAP *like YESTERDAY*. All returns *must* be postmarked prior to
Sept 24th. I need to let the caterer know a head count.

However, uninvited guests sometimes drop by. Last year, Hurrican Fran

Thanks for all of the tips-- especially on hard/soft tops on
88"/109"

However, I did not read enough of an argument on 190 vs.88 in
the snow!! If you have experience in both I would appreciate
an opinion. You see, snow is my only rationalization for
buying a Land Rover. The reality is that I just really WANT
one.

If you have no snow experience, I might expect mud to be
similar.

What do you say?

Subject: Leak at Base of Carb

I have a '74 Series III 88 with 107K miles on it's original (I think) 2.25l
engine that has been developing an oil leak (doesn't smell like gasoline) in
a place that I have not seen mentioned. It is seeping out of the gasket at
the base of the Zenith carb where it connects to the intake manifold. I have
checked and cleaned the PCV valve (sorry, "crankcase breather valve") and
wire mesh trap on the head cover. The carb was rebuilt about 6 months ago.The
engine does need new valve guides and it looks like there is a small oil leak
starting at the front of the head gasket and rear seal, so I do plan on
getting it rebuilt, but need to keep the lump functioning for another few
months to save up the $. Any ideas about the carb leak ?

I think it was Jan who came close to the answer for electic vs.
standard. The air/water cooling function of the fan needs to be in
motion consantly to be effective in preventing heat soak. As in Air
