From: Bill Cooper <bcooper@3wnet.com> Subject: RE: Land Rover Owners in NJ, NYC Area Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 12:18:43 -0400 Hello there, I would probably be interested. I live about 50min (well, 1hr 10 in a series) north of Princeton, straight up 206. Bill Cooper -----Original Message----- From: Charles Cooper [SMTP:Landy88@classic.msn.com] Sent: Saturday, September 13, 1997 11:33 AM To: lro@playground.sun.com Subject: Land Rover Owners in NJ, NYC Area I am considering starting an informal Land Rover Owners group for the Princeton, NJ area. As this is within driving distance (even in a Series) of NYC, Philadelphia, etc., these areas are invited...urged...to respond. I am the owner of a couple of Series Rovers and am looking for some people in this area to Rover about with. I am a member of the BSROA, and miss the events from there (I just relocated to the NJ area). If anyone is interested in an impromptu sort of club, PLEASE let me know. I am thinking of a group web page or newsletter. There are two dealerships with a half hour of my home, so I know there are plenty of owners. So let me know. You can respond to the Digest, but I would suggest that you e-mail me directly at LANDY88@MSN.COM. I look forward to hearing from you. ------------------------------[ <- Message 5 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970914 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

From: robot1@juno.com Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 19:56:08 -0500 Subject: Pontiac 173 engine On my soon-to-be-delivered rover, I've got a Chevy 250 six. Because of the length of the engine, the grille has been moved forward etc. I'd like to bring the grill back to normal position and reinstall a normal radiator etc. All this will be some time in the future, as I have to get together the cash to bring the bugger home first, but I've been wondering; has anyone tried to fit a Pontiac six (the 173) to a Rover? I was thinking the deep vee design would fit in the frame nicely, allowing plenty of engine room ( the vee makes the engine narrow) Specs of the engine give it 115 hp @4500 rpm. has anyone tried this? will it fit a Scotties adapter? Long time till I need to know, but jus'wunnerin. Long time till I need to know, but jus'wunnerin. I presume you are refering to the 2.8 litre 60 degree V6. I've never heard it refered to as either a Pontiac engine (though used in Pontiacs) nor as a 173. The original version in '80 was done by Chevrolet, but it's now a GM Powertrain engine. It has been used in both fwd and rwd/4wd applications including S/T trucks, and there have been 3.1 and 3.4 litre derivatives. Later engines with fuel injection have up to 180 hp or so. Another alternative would be a GM 2.5 litre line 4, either the original Chevy 4, Pontiac Iron Duke or later Tech 4 versions. Again, both fwd and rwd varients including S/T trucks were produced. Later versions had 120 hp or so with fuel injection. From: GElam30092@aol.com Date: Sun, 14 Sep 1997 00:30:19 -0400 (EDT) Subject: The early bird gets the .... LR It's been a difficult week. The only thing I had planned for Saturday was to sleep a little later than normal (5:30 AM) and then watch an early football game on TV. Well, as I'm looking at the paper, I decided to look through the want-ads and see's what is under the LR portion. There it is, a '71 LR for sale which the owners claims has been stored for the last three years and he not asking an arm and a leg for it. So, I'm thinking, too good to be true. I call the guy. He sound honest enough. It is an 88" SIIA. He's the third owner. Country stripes, OD, very, very clean. I take the bait and ask for directions. He says there is a guy coming from up north (Pine AZ) to look at it. I tell him I want to look at it anyway. So, I grab the wife and daughter and off we go. Guess what... he wasn't kidding. It is in excellent shape. It was painted about 5 years ago and whoever did it, did a very good job. It hasn't been run in 3 years and doesn't want to start it until all fluids are changed. With the right T&C's, I figure we can get over this. It has a nearly new transmission from a SIII in it. Reciept says Rovers North. He has a few spares to go with it too... radiator, pads, etc. Motor is clean. Overall, it is a 8 out of a 10. To compare, my '63 is a 5.5 out of a 10. The other Series IIA that went to Kansas was no more than a 4. So, I gave him my pager number and ask him to page me one way or the other. About 3:30, the pager goes off and the guy from Pine, who I do know (went to Belize with us!) bought it. Oh... it went for $4,000. Makes you want to cry. Morale: you snooze, you lose. To make it even worse, even my wife was willing to go with the deal. That may never happen again. Date: Sat, 13 Sep 1997 19:53:52 -1000 From: Faye and Peter Ogilvie <ogilvi@hgea.org> Subject: 4" turn signals for sale Aloha Wayne: I want to turn my '70 into the older look with head lights in the radiator grill. Will sell my 4" turn signals, but NOT cheap. As you have probably found out, they are NLA. Would rather trade for pieces than sell but will take money, if forced. If you have to keep your Rover stock, lets talk. Two lenses are near perfect and were the last of the NOS that were available. One is very good, shiny as the NOS ones but a few craze marks, another is in poor condition with a small hole that needs to be filled. These are complete lights with bases. As far as I know, until I disassemble them, the bases are in excellent condition. I also have a lense only that is whole but crazed and dull. ------------------------------[ <- Message 14 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970914 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
