Date: Mon, 04 Aug 1997 09:23:03 -0500 From: "Spencer K. C. Norcross" <spencern@acr.org> Subject: Painting Canvas: redux sorry for the repost, but i read the list via the web, and nothing made it into the digest for the day. i was wondering if anyone had any experience painting their canvas top, and could shed some light on what the best paint would be. i am going to be painting the scottish lion rampant on the top, so i will be using bright colors (yellow, red & blue) ideally i would like something colorfast and cheap(er). before anyone tries to talk me out of this, (i remember the last thread about this, but not the paint used) this is a $50 patched ex mil canvas, nothing great, so the paint will stop some of the water coming thru the top. rgds, spenny Arlington, VA 1969 SWB, The Wayback Machine <- now with many federally mandated safety requirements Land Rover - 4WD of choice for the Information Superhighway The road to hell is paved with unbought stuffed dogs. -Bill Gorton ------------------------------[ <- Message 2 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970805 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

On the engine cover of all of my Land Rovers it says "Tappet clearance hot or cold 0.010" " and yet in the haynes Manual and the Official LR Workshop manual (Danish edition) it states 0.020" (0.25mm) - so are we talking about a minor discrepancy of 0.010" or an error of the magnitude of 100% - does this matter? Who should I believe - the man who made the motor (label) or the man who made the manual? Whilst on the subject of tuning, has anyone a good tip for loosening and TURNING the distribution pump (diesel) whilst the engine is running, that is, without having to loosen the fuel feeds to the injectors to get the pump to turn (is there a "special" tool for turning the pump - it is not exactly easy to grip and turn? What does anyone else do? My new (1972) donor SIII is already the proud owner of a almost perfect working gearbox, has a new rear half frame and suspension, is repainted "below the water line" and is well on the way to being a daily driver fun-cabriolet for next summer. Just a little smoke to cure because of bad timing, and the engine is running very well. I have noticed that the early SIII (and probably SIIA) exhaust pipe arrangement, besides looking (IMHO) a little ugly the way the pipe runs behind the sill, also heats and drys the frame where it passes very close underneath - it was in precisely these areas that the old frame was rotted to lacework, is there a connection, can one recommend changing to the later SIII exhaust configuration by changing the manifold and the front 2 tubes? -- Adrian Redmond --------------------------------------------------- CHANNEL 6 TELEVISION DENMARK (Adrian Redmond) Foerlevvej 6 Mesing DK-8660 Skanderborg Denmark --------------------------------------------------- telephone (office) +45 86 57 22 66 telephone (home) +45 86 57 22 64 telefacsimile / data +45 86 57 24 46 mobile GSM (EFP unit) +45 40 74 75 64 mobile GSM (admin) +45 40 54 22 66 mobile NMT +45 30 86 75 66 e-mail channel6@post2.tele.dk HoTMaiL (www.e-mail) channel6denmark@hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------- --------------2C7E8C575FF2DDBFF4822138 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Description: Card for Adrian Redmond Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="vcard.vcf" begin: vcard fn: Adrian Redmond n: Redmond;Adrian org: Channel 6 Television / Denmark adr: Foerlevvej 6;;Mesing;Skanderborg;Jutland;DK-8660;Denmark email;internet: channel6@post2.tele.dk title: Head of production tel;work: +45 86 57 22 66 tel;fax: +45 86 57 24 46 tel;home: +45 86 57 22 64 x-mozilla-cpt: ;0 x-mozilla-html: TRUE end: vcard --------------2C7E8C575FF2DDBFF4822138-- ------------------------------[ <- Message 4 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970805 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

I am not experienced with english diesels, but many british gas engines use a tappet clearence of .010 (my TVR TR6 engine used to be with the stock cam). Also, I would set them when the motor is stone cold, even though some manuals say hot or cold is ok, I think .010 when hot means they will be very loose when cold. I have not received mine in about a month or so. I originally thought it was just down, but I have continued to receive the coil spring digest. I have tried to unsubscribe, and resubscribe about a trillion times now. Majordomo seems to be schizo or something. (perhaps a Lucas part?) Is there anybody out there who can explain what is happening, or if the LRO email list still exists? HELP! I am going through severe Land Rover list withdrawel and I won't last much longer. I'm also looking for perforated aluminum platforming (PAP), as seen on the Camel Trophy. Its also known as Martson Matting or sand ladders. I've contacted several companies in the US, but they only had steel. OK, I admit, its not really a LR question...But I did mention the Camel Trophy!
