I've tried to adjust the carb on my 2.6 ltr using the method as put forth in the workshop book. At first I was getting a bit of popping through the carb and then after lifting the pin and adjusting the carb, (leaning it out) , it started to get an irregular miss through the exhaust and a bit of valve noise. This goes away when I enrich the fuel mixture. I tried a colortune kit and no matter how rich or lean I make the mixture, it burns yellow(rich). There is oil in the carb dampener and the engine has plenty of power. I believe that I should be getting 10-16 mpg and I am getting 10-11 mpg. Any ideas? It does have the westlake head and S.U. carb. It definitely makes a difference in the idle to adjust it. As with all "mixture screws" or "idle jets", it is out of the picture once you step on the gas. Adjusting the mixture screw on any carb has no effect on overall mixture, only mixture at idle. I could be unkind and call them "halfshafts" as they are half as strong as the genuine parts, but I am not sure if that is true. I can only write from my experience. I installed two shafts from either Craddock or Paddock (I'll be vague to protect the inocent, and I honestly forgot). After about 3000 miles they both snapped on a trail ride in the North Georgia mountains. My use of a newly installed ARB locker may have had something to do with it :( but it was nevertheless disconcerting. They both snapped at the outer flange. I could have easily pulled them then and there on the trail (and slide in a spare pair I had brought along), instead struggled on with front wheel drive and a long drive home. I now have genuine axle shafts (and new wheel bearings as a result of the drive home). I trust these rear axles will give better service, and based on my discussions with some of the vendors here in the USA that should be the case. I think in this case you get what you pay for. erik Erik van Dyck Suwanee, Georgia 1973 Series III 88" ------------------------------[ <- Message 9 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970704 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
