Ron,

That kit has been on the market, for a good 20 years now. I'm suprised they
still make it! (I have old Tamiya catalogs from the late '70's, and they list
the SAS truck, AND a 109 military ambulance)

I am reposting this since there was evidently some trouble with the list
(as in I didn't get a digest for 3 days) and I'm not sure if it went
through. This came to me off the MG list. I'm forwarding it for anyone's
interest. I don't know anything about this vehicle, (as I'm in NC and it's
in CA). Please respond to Kelvin, kdodd@West.net .

Hi everyone...

Thank god the Major is back up, was going into withdrawl!!!!! Does anyone
from Ontario (eastern, central, or southern) or New York state have a spare
exhaust manifold for a 2.25 petrol that they would like to part with? Mine
has split right near the 4th port :(, it is as loud as hell and without
having all the windows and vents open you get quite sick from the fumes.

Thanks

One rust preventative that's popular over here is Fisholac. It's a
substance based on fish oil that soaks into rust and dries like a lacquer
which can be painted over. I've been using it on my repaired door frames.

It does have one drawback. Being made of fish oil, it smells a bit fishy.
I've been using the deodourised stuff, and well if this is deodourised
then the normal stuff must really pong. Its not too bad in a well
ventilated vechicles like the Landy but I sprayed it inside the door of a
mate's Mini I repaired and he complained of having to drive with the
windows open for three months. Apparently it was interesting after the
car had been parked in the sun for a while.

The neighbourhood cats sure do start taking an interest in your Landy
though!

I wonder if anyone might have an idea as to the availability of
Series model LR's in Italy/Switzerland/Austria/France?

How much?

$4,500 -10,000 for a LR in the States is just too much.

I might be in Turin soon and would like to purchase one there.
...That is unless someone knows of a reasonably priced LR in
Arizona (or the Southwest US).

I made up a bunch of these for my friends on the Lotus List and thought
I couldn't be any less faithful to my other marquee. I made up a LR
badge icon and a Series III icon (these work great as 'My Computer' and
'Network Neighborhood') and I also made up an animated spinning LR badge
cursor to use as 'Wait'. I plan on making a 'Working in Background'
animated cursor when I find the time. These aren't the greatest, but
they are kind of fun and add a little Rover to your desktop. Just
e-mail me if you want me to send them to you. I can also change icons
(like change Landy color or move headlamps) if you would like, or do a
request when I find time. Eventually I ended up making every Lotus
model, MG's, Spitfires.... and quite a few animation's... so let me know
if there is something you would really like to see. I'll send you
anything you want. And of course, it's free.

This came off a chassis that I ended up scrapping to make room for the

I don't see many Lotus Esprits around but there's a fellow in my town
(Ukiah, Calif) who has a black Esprit Turbo. He also has an old Elan S4, a
Caterham Super Seven (racing tune), a Mini-Cooper 1275S (BRG with Union Jack
on roof, of course), a 4x4 Ford Van, and a 4x4 motorhome! Both the van and
motorhome have winches and other trick kit. Needless to say, he's a
batchelor!!! He has expressed some interest in the Ibex, too.

Regarding your name, Chuque: Is that pronounced "chuck" or "chook"?

Subject: Zenith running rich

My 2.25 with Zenith carb is belching black smoke at idle. Turning the
mixture screw in or out seems to make no difference.

A little history:

I have a rebuilt 2.25 petrol, 8:1 lead-free head, all new ancillaries. It
has been on the road since May 3, and runs well enough, but the idle is
smoky (black) and the tailpipe black. A few days after I got it back on
the road, it quit on me. Investigation revealed that the needle valve in
the new carb was stuck shut. I freed it, and there has been no repeat of
that problem.

Now that I have finally had time to try to sort out the rich running
problem, I find that I can't get a proper idle. Looking into the
carburetor throat, I can see fuel dribbling from the orifice at the center
of the throat. (I think it would be appropriate to call this the "uvula.")
I snooped around inside the carb and found the float height to be somewhat
higher than the 1 5/16 specified in my aftermarket manual, so I adjusted to
spec. (I don't have much faith in the manual, as I found it in error on
the clutch linkage specification.) I also checked for foreign matter at
the needle valve (thought it might be related to the previous stalling
problem), but all seems in good order.

Am I missing something obvious (or otherwise)?

Hello again.

Thanks everyone for the tips on finding a remote vacuum servo -no luck =

I couldn't get a brake line (from the master to the servo) to let go of =
it's fittings, so until I'm able to make a new line I'm waiting to =

So I thought I'd tackle the now rough-running engine.

It was starting and running like a charm before the servo seems to have =
gone. The plugs were quite black but I can't think of anything else =
that should have really gone wrong.

I just finished checking the compression (I had this horrible flash =
wondering what if all that brake fluid ended up going right into the #6 =
bore) and it's still wonderful.

Does anyone have an idea, opinion or some experience with what happens =
after one's engine drinks a reservoir full of DOT 4???

Hi All,

It happend, my santana gave up on me. It did not only fail the MOT
on slick brakes,
but on the way home something in the steering housing went completely
wrong. Now there is no movement at all. Fortunately I was almost
home. So I now have also a gearbox on his last shoes and my engine is
collapsing anytime now. Good jobs to do in the summer.

My question however to you all is, Does anyone know more about the
early diesel engines with the different fuelinjectors.

About two weeks ago I did visit my spareparts supply, who told me
that my engine was even older than my car.
My car is already an interesting object, early SIII,september '71, SII gearbox, an lot of little
Santana mods like the hinges, safari back door (same as the side doors).

I hope someone can tell more about the engine, what it is, is it worth
keeping it?, or should i get rid of it and exchange it for a later
diesel ?
