I everyone out green-laning, codging spares, doing their frameover or having a holiday - or is the Major on strike again - I haven't seen a posting from the other side of the pond for several days! My guess is that the Major is of Lucas/Jaeger manufacture, held together with pop-rivets, and wired with original genuine spare part Land rover torpedo connectors? Or am I just being cynical? From: NADdMD@aol.com Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 16:17:08 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Minor bummer Hi all, Well, just got a bit of news from the mechanic which is a bit of a bummer. The rear main seal is that of the old SII engines. Therefore my SIIa (1967) is really running with SII engine, clutch and gearbox (don't know if the gearbox is all that different from the SIIa but the clutch is the old style). Which means when it comes time to rebuild, I may not be able to get all the bits it needs (some of the bearings). Oh and the rear main seal is about $80 more than the usual. :( Nate NADdMD@aol.com ------------------------------[ <- Message 8 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970624 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
Date: Mon, 23 Jun 1997 16:26:43 -0400 From: Rob Dennis <RobD@UnitedParking.com> Subject: Replacement Alternator? I want to replace the 34amp Alternator in my SerIII with something more in the 60+ range. I have heard of several people using Delco alternators but no details as to which model. Someone mentioned a while back about using the alternator from a 1979 Eighty-Eight but that does not seem to fit. If anyone knows what alternators fit, I would greatly appreciate it. There was barely any slop in the gear movement and no chipped/excessively worn teeth. Is this rust anything to be worried about?
