I do have one question and one clarification. What is the 2286 engine you refer to? I've seen this number before. Is this simply the actual displacement of what is commonly referred to as the 2.25 engine? Regarding the "3456" number that appears in the denominator of the CFM equation. If I'm not mistaken this number should be independent of the pressure (1.5" or merc). It's actually a multiplication of two numbers (1728x2). The first (1728) is the conversion of cubic inches to cubic feet (1728 cubic inches/cubic foot). The 2 is there to divide the RPM in half since it takes two revolutions to displace 139.5 cubic inches. Friday, June 27 - I'm still planning to welcome anyone who would like to visit Vinalhaven Island on Friday, and will lead a walking tour of the island. I'll meet two of the morning boats - 8:45 and 11:15 departure - that leave from the State Ferry Terminal on Rte 1 in Rockalnd. The adult passenger fare is about $9.00, less for kids. The ferry service charges extra for bikes. Parking at the ferry terminal is $3.00 per day. The 15 mile trip across the bay takes 1 hr. 20 minutes. Boats leave the island at 1:00 pm, 2:45, and 4:30 pm. You can buy lunch on the island or bring food along. If you need further information, e-mail or call me at 207-863-4557. Saturday, June 28 - The off road course begins at the Old Massachusetts Campground in Lincolnville, ME (about 10 minutes in traffic northwest on Rte. 1 from Camden, 20 minutes from Rockland, 30 minutes from Owls Head), on Saturday morning. Mark Letorney and Mike Hopwood from Rovers North worked with Myles Murphy and Dwight Wass, the campground owner, to create an exciting off road course. The cabins are all reserved, but campsites are available and run $19 per might for 2 people. If you stay at the campground, you do have to pay for the off road use fee of $10. Otherwise, your cost will be $10 per car. They hope to start the off roading between 10-11 pm. Mark Letorney told me that it will be a great off-road course, with challenging technical stretches and some great scenery. As of 1:30 pm Thursday, Dwight Wass reported to me that since few people had pregistered and sent it money, Myles Murphy could not give a caterer a head count. New efforts with the campground to arrange for the catered lunch. This may settle out differently come next week, and you can check with the campground before you depart. Dwight will have snacks and soft drinks for sale that day. If you want more information, call him at the campgroud at (207) 789-5135. I have no new information about what might happen on Saturday night. The rally publicity spoke of a meal at the Whalestooth Pub (as in previous years) on Rte. 1 in Lincolnville at $15 per head - or you can order from the menu. Whatever happens, it's still a great meeting spot along the ocean. If you want a simple lobster, there's a great lobster shack restaurant next door. Again, this may settle out differently by Rally time, Sunday, June 28th - The Owl's Head Transportation Museum will again be the site for the Rally day. Their gates will open around 9:00 am. There's no official charge for Rovers. There will be an exhibit of new Rovers by Land Rover Scarborough, a Rovers North tent, and the oft-discussed British Bulldog will have a tent. The Downeast Land Rover Club, based out of Bangor, ME, will have a table. I've heard that LROA and the LRO Shop will also be present, but I cannot confirm that information. I don't know whether Myles will be present to organize the concentric circle parking of the Rovers; whatever happens, please follow the lead of volunteers on parking. Last year, 180 Land Rovers stuffed themselves into the hallowed grounds. With that many vehicles, they'll need to be some orderliness [what a strange concept for Land Rovers owners!] to accomodate the numbers. The Museum's exhibits and airshow (afternoon) will be open and free to all who enter in Rovers. Food and facilities are available on site. If you need more information, call them at 207-594-4418. Myles Murphy has worked hard to keep this premier event on target for '97. You owe it to yourself to participate in this special Land Rover weekend. I want something that is smooth and soft enough to spray at normal = spring maintenance temperatures, but which loses a good deal of solvent = shortly after having been applied so that it solidifies. (without = killing anything) Right now the "not quite right" recipe is one part paraffin, two parts = spirits and one part 40wt by volume. I'll let the list know if I come up with something just right. Chris (and others), Here is a recipe from a Larry Mayo....I had to retype in the message as I only had a hardcopy. Therefore spelling errors are probably mine! 1 pound parafin wax (grated with cheesegrater...or use the cuisinart heh heh) 1/2 gallon mineral spirits. Larry notes that it may take up to 2 weeks for the wax to dissolve, but constant stirring helps (keep a lid on the bucket obviously!). He says 'generally add as much wax as the spirits will hold'. Then dump in a couple of pints of mineral oil or motor oil. If too thick, thin with more mineral spirits. Well, I took somebody's advice and took a peek at the funny castellated nut on the rear end of the mainshaft. It was a bit loose. I put a new washer and lockwasher in there and tightened it properly. AND...I can't get second to jump out anymore. BUT...I still find it difficult to get it into second early in the mornings when the beast is still cold. After 200meters drive it works fine again for the rest of the day. Any ideas? Can I blame it on my clutch?
