Planning to have a stainless plate made for the area between the frame rails to cover the trans case and front of mufflers. Question is can I weld a 3" box to the frame on each rail to use as the bolt on connection for the plate. There are few bolt on locations on the frame. Next quest, what is the safest way to weld to the frame, disconnect battery and ground, etc. are there any other nice to knows. From: John Putnam <jdputnam@pacifier.com> Subject: Disco Satisfaction Date: Sat, 14 Jun 1997 10:56:17 -0700 Hi gang, I think I might have talked my significant other into talking herself = into getting a new Disco. Here's how it worked. Last year we sold her = Pathfinder and bought a Maxima. Since then we have moved to a small = town in the country and adopted two dogs that we like to take with us = when we go out. This last fact was the key to Disco. You see, the dogs = are eight months old and around 90 lbs. each ( they don't fit into the = back seat of the Maxima ). Since I have the Rover at work each day and = she works at home (what a commute) she wants to get a new SUV for = herself and the Jack & Jill. So, before I get to rapped up in the whole Disco thing I need some = honest opinions. For those of you who have taken the plunge and bought = one, would you do it again, why or why not? Thanks in advance John Putnam Penny Forrest Jack & Jill Forest Grove, OR '70 SIIa SWB "The Rhino" PS the other choice is a Pathfinder again. ------------------------------[ <- Message 5 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970615 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]

Date: Sun, 15 Jun 1997 00:49:27 -0700 From: Adrian Redmond <channel6@post2.tele.dk> Subject: Salisbury Axle questions I pulled my transmission axle today to check if the castle nuts in the drive chain were loose and could be the casue of the jumping out of 2nd gear phenomena. No loose castle nuts, all tight as a drum - but I did notice a measure of backlash in the rear differential, I'd gues it was about 15 degrees - about 8-10mm turn on the flange from turned tight against the mesh in one direction to turned tight in the other direction. First question - is this normal? sencond - if not - is this a problem at all? Thirdly - could this cause gearbox to hop out of 2nd when coming down from 3rd. Fourth - Why only when coming down to 2nd from 3rd, why not also when going up from 1st? Fifth - why only in second? This is a standard gearbox on a 1976 SIII 109 2,25 l diesel, with standard salisbury rear axle. Gearbox just has a total overhaul by a most trusted workshop (who have in fact already offered to rip it out and find the problem free of charge). Just my curiousity - and the fact that the workshop undertook the rebuild, but I took the box out and put it in again, so i don't want to incur workshop time on a fault which is caused by something I have done! The essential question is therefore - is this problem INSIDE the gearbox, or OUTSIDE it? Ideas? Brainstorms? Solutions? Wild guesses? -- Adrian Redmond --------------------------------------------------- CHANNEL 6 TELEVISION DENMARK (Adrian Redmond) Foerlevvej 6 Mesing DK-8660 Skanderborg Denmark --------------------------------------------------- telephone (office) +45 86 57 22 66 telephone (home) +45 86 57 22 64 telefacsimile / data +45 86 57 24 46 mobile GSM (EFP unit) +45 40 74 75 64 mobile GSM (admin) +45 40 54 22 66 mobile NMT +45 30 86 75 66 e-mail channel6@post2.tele.dk HoTMaiL (www.e-mail) channel6denmark@hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------[ <- Message 9 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970615 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
