Glad you found the other problem areas but the only ones that would probably have affected the running of the engine, in the short term, would have been the tappet slides and rollers. On doing a rebuild I routinely replace these if they have been in service for a long time. The rollers can get out of round and the clearance between the tappet slides and guides can increase from wear. Happy Rovering, Rich Ziegler, L/R mechanic '63 88 SIIA pet. I've broken my first mirror on the Range Rover. Luckily (for my pride) it happened in a VERY tight trail section and I was miles from the nearest paved road. I'm experiencing a bit of sticker shock at the price difference (last car was a 109), but realize they are two completely different beasts. So, anyone have an extra '89 (or same style) left side mirror they wanna part with? I'm not sure about other years, but the '89 is a power mirror. There's lots to learn about my latest LR product. Please be patient with me, and I'll update you on the OME springs/shocks, skidplates, rocksliders and custom bumpers I'll be putting on it soon. Thanks! Drain the coolant, loosen the fan belt, then undo the four bolts and remove the fan and pully. You can now get to all the bolts on the water pump. Loosen the clamps on the middle hose and the pump comes right off. I did mine a couple of weeks ago...no problem. Today's the first over 90F and I was running a little hot. I pulled off the freeway to run a little cooler. (Might be low on fluid). Anyway, going up the last hill from home, 3rd didn't seem to accel up the hill commensurate with the engine speed, and then I smelled something hot. Shifted down to 2nd and good response. I thought I had heard on the list about a trick of holding on the brake and slowly letting out the clutch in 1st. With a little extra gas, I was able to let the clutch fully out without killing it. Possibilities? At frameover, the clutch worked perfectly so I've done nothing but adjust it. From: Shane Burnett <ShaneB@Review.com> Subject: RE: Building the perfect barbecue Date: Mon, 19 May 1997 21:08:00 -0400 Our Mini club has done something a little.....bigger. Members from the club took an old shell that was a complete write-off and cut away the roof, the left side from the windshield back, and most of the back. The car has 3 wheels -- two in front, and the right rear. From the front or the right, it looks like a convertible Mini. The engine was removed and a barbecue was put in its place. A wooden shelf runs waist-high along the length of the inside of the car as a serving counter. It has decals on the side that say, "Mini-Q". It's a big hit at the local field meet.
