A FRIEND TELLS ME IT'S EASIER TO USE THAN A J**P'S. HOWEVER, I WONDER IF THE J**P'S TOPS REACH ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE DRIVER/PASSENGER'S DOORS. MINE DOESN'T. THE LITTLE OPENINGS AT THE FRONTS OF THE DOORS ARE EXCELLENT FOR INSURING THE LANDY LEAKS. IT ALSO SUFFERS FROM WINDOW CURL, BUT NO WINDOW ROLL. THIS TOP, HOWEVER, WAS MADE IN CALIFORNIA (GET A ROPE!). I RECENTLY SAW ANOTHER ON A D-90 - WITH ALPINE WINDOWS, A LAND ROVER PATCH AND NO HOLES UP FRONT. IF I COULD FIND ONE OF THOSE, I'D LIKE TO GIVEN THEM A TRY - IT APPEARED TO BE RAILED. OTHER THAN THAT - ZIPPING DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH THE TOP POPPING TINY SONIC BOOMS AND THE WIND WHISTLING THROUGH THE WINDOW EDGES HELP ME FORGET ABOUT THE HOT AIR BLOWING IN AROUND MY FEET. BTW - THERE'S A DEALER-SPONSORED OFF-ROAD AND RAFTING TRIP GOING ON BIG BEND IN WEST TEXAS. I AM WORKING. I HOPE IT'S RAINING (ONLY FOR GOOD WALLOWING HOLES, OF COURSE). GUYS, IF YOU'RE OUT THERE, REALLY, I HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A GOOD TIME. ADIOS! The 1994 Defender 90s had a grey canvas top, with alpine windows and a small LR patch behnind the drivers front door. This top snaped down and can not be interchanged with the new tops which use the "rail system." Supposidly, this top did not fit well, thats why LR changed the design of the top. Your top should velcro down around the drivers door, and there should be some weather striping. the tops I saw at the dealer seemed to fit well. But some postings indicated on the Rovers North page that some peoples Defenders were not fitted with the weather striping. For some extra insualtion, some one suggested an idea of taking cylendrical pipe insulation, cut a length egual to the window, and slip it onto the window. Do you get the idea? I'm really bad at explaining things, expecially over e-mail. BTW, please take the capslock off. The > vehicle has the 2.0 liter LR engine with 85,000 miles on it. Denny, I wasn't going to touch this thread, till I read the reply about keeping it stock. Do what you like, it's your truck, just pu-leeez don't lower it, and put those stooo-pid 35 series tires on it and make it look like a skateboard; with the wheels sticking out. A more modern engine sounds like a good idea, even better if you use the stock mounts. *I'd* save the old two liter mill and build it as parts were found. (But then again, I seldom throw any rebuildable engine part away. I have a lovely collection of Volvo diesel blocks, just waiting for a VW six cyl petrol head to be developed.......) Then you have the best of both worlds. This from a British Pacific newsletter I got today: "4cyl Chevy engine and "Scotty" adapter for LR. 15,000 miles on rebuild. Make offer. Carla (406)923-0843" The usual caveats and disclaimers apply. Cheers!! They are looking for a 2-1/4 liter engine tested with the same high compression as their Chevy, plus you doing all the work in the 'exchange'. Their intent is to have you restore their truck as an original, ie collectable Land Rover. -Michael ------------------------------[ <- Message 27 -> end | Table of Contents | <- Digest 970518 -> Archive Index | <- Browser -> ]
Date: Sat, 17 May 1997 18:40:18 -0700 From: Uncle Roger <sinasohn@crl.com> Subject: movie sighting I almost forgot this one... In "Murder at 1600", Wesley Snipes is a homicide detective in DC. At the start of the movie, he shows up at the scene of a laid-off government worker standing in the middle of the road threatening to kill himself. Snipes jumps out of his car and crouches behind on of the b&w's per s.o.p. He then goes on to walk out and try to get the guy to explain why he's being evicted and so on. Saves the guys life. yeah, yeah. Direct ripoff of the "control the jump" scene from Lethal Weapon 1. Anyway, while snipes is crouching behind the patrol car, the camera jumps back and forth from the crazy guy to snipes. When showing snipes, one can easily spot the (blurred) front end of what definitely looks like a Range Rover Classic. Don't go see the movie for this, though. It's a standard snipes movie. Someone really needs to explain to mr. snipes (or his handler) how guns work. Uncle Roger "There is pleasure pure in being mad sinasohn@crl.com that none but madmen know."
