David has described the Stage 1 side of things, which I know very little about.
I didn't know the army had any Stage 1s, but they had 1-tonners (strengthened
versions of mine), so why not?

The radio side of things, it sounds like you have FFR. I haven't managed to
differentiate my stuff into HF/VHF/UHF, but then some of the fittings have
been removed.
I'm after a pair of wing-mounted "Larkspur" aerial mounts as you describe,
although I think they might block visibility. Do they?
I have the switches, etc. for Infra-Red and Convoy lights, although the
Convoy Light has been removed.
Yes, the alternator is big (I assume its the same as the 2.25l fitted one)
New Genuine Parts, they cost more than an engine, but secondhand they cost
GBP 20-30 (my spare was GBP 20 from Old Sodbury). PS: does anyone know anything
about servicing/get bits? When I have some spare time, I could service my
spare so its "ready" in-case I need it!

You may prefer to civilianise the ht electrics, I had loads of trouble with my
distributor and spark cabling - all that shielding, urrrgh!

Subject: Lost list

Now for a change, I cant seem to get ON the list. I was receiving it fine
for about a week and then nothing for the last 4 days. Ive tried
re-subscribing (says I'm already subscribed), and un-subscribing and then
re-subscribing and still nothing other than confirmations to my commands
from the Major. This happened with both this list and the UK list.
Can anyone help? Have I been banished? Do I exist? Whats the meaning
of^H^H^H (oops wrong question). I await with excitment the answers as
withdrawl is wreaking havoc with my typing finger ;-)

Greetings,
Todd

Names really are a personal thing. Take it out for a
long ride once the weather warms up, and just listen
to it for a while. A name will come to you.

Is it me?
I haven't heard from the major in three days. I'm going into list withdrawal.
I may actually have to go out and work on my Rover rather than just talk about
it!

Any receiving please let me know if I need to resubscribe. Ha! someone trying
to subscribe who actually wants to, the ramifications are mind numbing.

Subject: door seals on series II

Howdy,

I am needing to replace all the cab seals on our Series II 88. It looks like
the originals were riveted in place, and as I seem to recall, there was a
discussion some time ago about replacing the seals. Do the rivets need to be
drilled out and is the replacement easy? Some have mentioned that there is
an equivalent type J seal available at parts stores, but there is also the
original J seal. Which is best and what is the relative merits and costs?

The shock towers on the front of my 109 coiler conversion broke in 2.
The shock then went up through that plastic cover and bumped the
ignition coil. That's how I noticed in the first place - no way to
tell from handling :)

I think they're all the same on RRs and D90s - any used ones out there?
Mike(ECR), do you have any spares from your coiler axles?
thx

Hello everyone,

We have CHANGED THE DATES for the 2nd Annual Suwannee River Valley Land
Rover Rally to the weekend of APRIL 18-20.

For those of you that missed the previous post, my father and I will be
hosting the 2nd Annual Land Rover Rally/Swap Meet in Lake City, Florida.

restroom. Lodging is also available in Lake City. We will be providing a
large portable cooker for everyone to use.

Sooo... make your plans to attend. Don't forget to bring your old parts,
tech info, stories, humor and spirit for adventure. For more information
please contact Nick Karantinos @ 904 752 0139 or Jim Karantinos @ 904 280

There is no simple way, really.
If you use original-type seals, you have to get all the old rivets out.
No big deal really, just chisel 'em off.
Fun part is that the new seals rarely line up with the old rivet holes,
so you end up drilling a zillion holes for the new ones.
You could use a push-on type seal, but then you'll need to grind off the
lip on the door jamb.

I understand dealers do a booming business in parts and service, but
probably mostly by warantee work that they are too happy to perform at
the request of whining customers. This certainly takes a big bite out
LRNA's survivability picture. After the 50,000 miles are up, prudent
buyers either dump the vehicle or go elsewhere for service. The secondary
Land Rover parts and service business is probably just coming into a
strong growth period. With RR's having been sold since '87, there are
only 5 or so model years of vehicles outside of dealer warantee, with the
majority of vehicles sold in recent years yet making their appearance in
the secondary parts and service sector.

Judging by my recent experience with the auto body and insurance business
in California (US wide?), parts sold at outrageous list prices lines the
pockets of LRNA and dealerships. In another twist, parts prices quoted
to me by dealerships appeared to be marked UP (!) 10-15% over LRNA list.
