Not exactly East Coast, but:
Last 107" pick up was made in 1956, followed by Series 1 109" pick up. Last
107" Station Wagon was made in 1958, followed by Series II 109" S/W.

Regarding the '63/64 107 Land-Rover, as mentioned on "Car Talk"
last Saturday, I just wrote what I heard. Remember, these were the
words of the totally disinterested wife, so you gotta' give or take a
couple of inches and a few years.

I was too young to be aware of Land-Rovers in the days of "Wild
Kingdom" and Marlin Perkins. Sounds like I missed a good show!

If this has worked there should follow a list of bearings used on series
land rovers.

If there are any specific questions please E mail me direct and I will

At first I ran into the same thing ($80-100) to fire up the blaster. Then
one of the workers told me to look for a place that does maintenance and
tire work for big trucks (semi's, 18 wheelers, dump truck). Sure enough, I
called up and told them I had 6 rims to blast, prime and paint. They said
they would do the work and mount my tires for $135 TOTAL. It wasn't till I
showed up that they figured out that it was for a little truck. Only one
hitch at the place I went, the rims must be 16in or larger (mine were,
whooo). They said they couldn't charge much more than that 'cause when your
doing 18 or more it would be too expensive. Hope this helps

Hello! Just got back from taking the Defender into the worst winter snow storm
since 1982. I got stuck up in Lake Tahoe, in the California Sierra mountains
for 3 days in the blizzard. During the wait going up highway 50, I got out
and had a good talk with the driver of a discovery waiting behind me.

On the trip, I noticed what I consider a "major" flaw in the design of the
heater air intake on my defender. It seems that the air intake for the
heater blower fan is a black platic vent sticking straight up on the passenger
side of the engine.

Well, as you can imagine, snow quickly filled the vent and clogged it, Ice and
snow filled it up inside completely shutting off the airflow and thus no heat
in the truck. The windows quickly fogged up and I had to open all the windows
with 15 degree outside tempetured to de-fogg.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Can I re-direct the vent to pull
air from the engine compartment?

No it won't. Where are you located? There's a fellow in the Bay Area of Calif.
that will do rims for $15 a piece.

Thanks. I would love to have the tracing. I might try to have him do it
this spring as a project. We have access to all the mills and things
needed to do a first rate job. The thickness is critical so thanks for
letting me know. I will see if he can buy something already made that
thick or if we will have to build up something. Dave VE4PN

Subject: My rerouted kodiak intake

Teriann, et al:
My fender inlet has been disconnected and the hole covered for several years
now. A large hole in the footwell on the right hand side admits air into the
heater core via a "D"-shaped box. The box consists of two plywood pieces,
one with a hole fitting the heater core intake. A piece of sheet aluminmum
is bent over the curved edges and is held to the footwell with screws. The
increased temperature in very cold weather is noticable and, I'd say, worth
the effort. The "snorkle" actually connects to this box, not the aircleaner,
to admit some fresh air. The air at 6feet is more pleasant to breath than at
fender level, especially in traffic. Snorkles look appropriate in Land
Rovers, anyway.
The down-side is increased humidity, as already mentioned, but it is
capable of melting ice on the glass at 55mph.

Regarding Delco wiring; I originally connected the sense terminal to the
stud, which lead to instability. The charge needle would cycle between 0 and
a few + amps charge with a period of about 0.5 second. Amplitude would
increase with connected load. Connecting the sense directly to the battery
or the + lead on the ammeter stopped the instability.

Drove my first production D90 SW yesterday. Previously I had driven only =
the well-thrashed LRNA prototype after the Boston auto show.

Reaction? Very, very smooth! Ample power. Stomping produces a wonderful =
rush of power at kickdown along with a reasonably throaty growl. Pretty =
decent exhaust burble. The bullies won't kick sand in your face at the =
stop light. At least not from any other SUV...

The console is very well presented although not nearly as capacious as =
the old one. The old one could house a ton. This one about a quarter ton =
- even less with the CD player installed. Cupholders for the rear seat =
passengers!!

The instruments are a vast improvement. The dash lights are visible now =
EVEN ON LOW! Switch to bright and they really are! Smooth speedo. Glass =
fronts on all gauges mean no more spider scratches.

One thing we noticed at Metro West. Installation of ARB bumper produces =
interference with hardware between it and the tranny oil cooler!! Wow! =
Always something! If you are planning same, you had better check with =
your dealer before you plunk down cash for ARB...

Other than those things, pretty much same as 1995 D90SW. The 4.0L motor =
really shines with its coil pack ignition system and serpentine belt. =
The electronics are ensconced in a rather unusual plastic housing =
alongside the RH inner wing.

Metro West has about 8 of them currently on the ground being prepped and =
equipped with various stuff - from ARB/WARN, ARB/SUPERWINCH, and bone =
stock. We will cover the vehicle in the Nov/Dec issue of the Rover =
Reference.

Cheers
Jim

I also have an external sun visor from R.O.A.V. and it is made and fits quite
well. In fact, the original came off a Land-Rover that was down at Harrell
Motors in Waynesville, N.C., that I found years ago. Anyway, I would like to
wish all of you a most happy holiday and look forward to meeting more of you
via the digest and at the different meets next year. All of you diesel owners
remember that synthetic oil, 2 BIG twelve volt batteries wired in parallel
and a rag with gas held over your air intake manifold will make your

Don't do it by hand!!!! far to much like hard work and the result is
poor as you can't get into the cracks. I don't know the going rate for
sand-blasting in the US, but if you go to a blaster with a high capacity
rig, then even 80 USD per hour will be cheap if he can do them in 30
minutes.

Galvanizing, or metallizing ( the blobs) is well worth it, I have
metallized mine, and the paint holds well on the outside, and the tyre
holds well on the inside.

The thing to bear in mind with professional blasting and letalizing is -
do it once - do it properly, and you will never have to do it again.
Scrimp or cut-corners, and it may be an annual job.
Good luck, happy christmas.

The solution is easy. Just install series diamond plate wing protectors,
cut a 4 inch hole in the side of your wing where all series owners with
Kodiak heaters know the hole belongs and pipe it with some flex hose.

Just pretend you have a series Land Rover with a kodiak heater and someone
installed the wrong wing.
