Check out the trees and vegetation and other indicators, sometimes the LR is running almost on the 'flat' but the cropping of the photo makes it look like it's circumnavigating Mt. Everest... Date: Sat, 30 Nov 1996 16:59:15 +0000 Hi All; Today (Nov.30) in the newspaper there is an article and photo of the Aro ,a Romanian built 4X4 sw. Now for the L-R content. It looks very much like the Landy 110 sw. My question is, will this turn-out to be the 4X4 equivlent of the ever trendy Yugo? At the price quoted in the article of $9,828.00 could it be anything else? We can all hope that it comes with rear heated glass so that as "Click&Clack" say it will keep one' hands warm while pushing it back to the dealer. The article comes from AUTOMOTIVE NEWS and has the by line of Jim Henry, it was in THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT newspaper here in Southeastern VA. Another fix (the next time you have your manifold off) is to tap the stud holes and fit "Heli-coil" or "Quali-zert" stainless steel thread inserts. Then, by using stainless *bolts* instead of the usual nut on stud, your problems are over and the whole assembly can be removed (instead of cut off) at some time in the future. At the price quoted in the article of >$9,828.00 could it be anything else? Aro's were sold in Canada in the 80's, but not for long. Good coincepot, but the quality was horrible, except for the frame, which is built for a tank. The trucks rots and the engine can't last more than 50,000 miles. A few guys around here collect them and gets them for free since everybody wants to trhough it to the dump. (The owner was giving 50$ to the first guy who left with the truck) Not a good reputation. In the late 80's , there was an american entrepreneur who wanted to bring the Aros completed, less engine and tranny. His intention was to put new Ford Ranger engine and transmission in the beast cos he liked the looks. Don't know what happened to his company or if he ever did operate at all. It seemed at the time like a great idea, since he could get the Aros in for next to nothing. Indeed, it lloks like the 110's but a bit smaller. Aro has been around since the early seventies, I think. Ihave had excellent luck in all cases where the manufacturer employs a ball/socket type manifold joint by placing stiff die springs under the nuts. This allows the exhaust system to flex as the engine/chassis flexes. Much less strain on the entire system that way. Most Ford and Chevy four and inline sixes come this way from the factory. Tip: Use brass nuts. If the studs get rusted, the nuts will strip and come off easily, damaging the easy-to-replace nuts rather than the difficult-to-replace studs.
