Subject: Lug wrenches

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to get a 15/16 socket and a
breaker bar. That is exactly what I borrowed from the local (genuine)
mechanic when I finally got the lug nuts off yesterday.

But Paul Donohue explained the whole problem when he identified the stock
lug wrench as a Lucas product. The Prince of Darkness strikes again!

Having had a wheel come off at about 40 mph a few years ago, I probably now
overtighten the lugs. To do so I use the handle from the 4' high-lift jack as
a cheater. It slides right over the handle of a 1/2" rachet (heavy duty
Williams 'tube lock' scaffold rachet from an old refinery job). And it's
easier if you remove the handle from the hi-lift before using it thusly.....

Slippery fingers have led to a tragedy...a broken Alpine window in the 109.
If anyone out there has a spare or knows of one, please let me know. I am
heartbroken that I let this happen.

I have recently purchases a Land Rover 110 - 1985 model with a V8 engine.
The car, despite its age, has only 3,500K on the clock as it has been
stored in a garage for the past 10 years (dry desert conditions no
rust).
My intention is to prepare the car for the UAE Desert Challenge cross
country rally at the end of October and possibly for the Paris-Dakar in
January. The car will be entered as a T1,therefore the only changes that
can be made are basically for safty.
As my knowledge about Land Rovers is limited, I would be grateful for any
information about the cars weak points, essential spares to be carried,
and areas of possible damage to the car having sat around for ten years.
Looking forward to your replies.
Kirk Dowswell - Al Ain, UAE.

Subject: T-shirt logo's - bad news.

Due to an inquiry from Terje Paa Fjellet i talked to the DL-RK shop
keeper. The discussion turned to the subject of copyrights. He
recently had some very unpleasant discussions with the LR agent in
this country about some items carried by the shop. It appears that LR
for the last three years have become increasingly more fierce when it
comes to "protecting" their logo and claiming license money for the
use of it. The user being a non-profit organisation or not.

Hence, i'll have to change two of the proposed logos that bears an
exact copy of the current LR logo. I'll post when done.

We still need someone to do something. Tom, are you still willing to
be a polling station?.

S.,

I believe that by having your club join the ARC in the UK, you will be
entitled to use the LR logo for non-profit purposes. Apparently the
ARC and its member clubs have been granted this right by Land Rover.

Of course, when in doubt ask Dixon :)

Anyone in Massachusetts help with this ????

I have "SOLD" my 109 to a couple in MASS. They have set some rules about
collecting the vehicle, when they take title and based on the vehicle passing
inspection, then they part with the cash.

My neighbour, who runs the local Volvo dealership here in Keene warned me
about the Lemon Laws and what I could be responsible for to get the vehicle
through inspection.

Can anyone give the low down on selling into MASS.

BTW the LR is a 1964 109 SW and I think it should pass, the sprinsg on the
back may need replacing soon, but apart from that, lights etc work, brakes
fine, even the transmission brake works !!!

I'm sort of put off about this, as I think the buyer may be an attorney !!!!
Last thing I want is a law suit.

The club is already an ARC-member. Perhaps the agent is not aware of
the above. Or maybe the agreement is slightly different. I'll talk to
the shop keeper again next week and tell him to dig into this.

Thanks
