Hi Christopher,

it is not easy to say if ithe price is reasonable or not, because I don't
now the year off the vehicle or if there are some other options fitted,
but I will give you some prices off other 110's so that you can make
your own conclusion.
-110 2.5D from 1987 Hardtop with windows, cloth front seats, full acoustic
kit, good condition, heavy duty chassis (Ex-army, so it will be wax-oiled
from the very beginning) and in good condition. asking price : 4500 =A3

-110 2.5D Truck cab 1985 good all round condition : 3.750=A3 + VAT (17.5%)

-110 Diesel rag top 120.000 miles good working vehicle 3.500=A3 from 1983

-1986 110 2.5 diesel professionally refurbished 1995 reconditioned
engine and gearbox, new steering box and transfer box, price : 6.000=A3
From this one I will give you the phone number because it sounds very
 interesting to me : 0121 459 1979 (UK)

Where did you seen this 110, if it was in the States it looks to me
that they make the double off the asking price in the UK.

about the details you asked to inspect :

I shoud take a close look to the gear- and transferbox, because if
there is any damage to it, it will be very expensive to fix and it
is not easy to fix a 5-speed gearbox yourself, it is even tricky for
a non experienced mechanic or garage.
take also a look if the vehicle is leaking : the engine is ok (they leak
all), but it is not okay if the power steering is leaking, and I should
also avoid a vehicle like a 110 if the gearbox is leaky.
you should also take in mind that spares for a 110 are expensive and
probably rare in the States.

Regards,

Mike Hickman wrote, inquiring about suggestions for his blown head gasket.
I'd suggest having the heads pressure tested and 'skimmed' (planed) while
they're off. Both should be machined (if necessary) the same amount to allow
proper intake manifold fitting. If a serious overheat condition existed, they
could be warped or cracked. Or, they could be the root of the problem to
begin with. Since they're aluminum, they can't be magni-fluxed. If they need
to be replaced, import, good/used!$! I successfully had one welded/repaired
for $20 US. The pressure test was $40 for both, which included verification
after repair. I'm not sure about the newer 3.9's but the 3.5's used a stamped
cheapo head gasket. See if you can find a "Felpro" or similar aftermarket
head gasket. If not, the second time you do it will be faster...
Also, replace the coolant and heater hoses now, it will never be easier...
Then there's the lifters... And don't forget to inspect the cam... Did it
overheat? If so dismantle the rockers and clean them up, especially the
journals in the rocker _arms_ themselves. A pipe cleaner helps....
Been there, done that...

Expanding on the last sentence...
--Scale models go with: Lincoln Logs (!)
--Series LRs go with: sm. cabin w/outhouse 50yds away, the requisite draughty
windows, sleeping bags on (hard) mats, doors w/o knobs but latches (amish

--Discos go with: big cabin w/ plumbing, hot water, garage, cabinets

--RRs go with: log-megahouse w/: Sealy posture-pedic beds, leather sofas,
entertainment centers, cell phone system, ac & heat, skylights, multi-level
(as in air suspension), paved drive (as in traction control), etc. ; )

Ok, cso's, you can laugh now...

I wonder what the wiring is like in those cabins? (lucas?)
Are there Hi-Lift Jacking points? (for when you want to add a basement)
Are ARB Lockers standard in the bathrooms? (instead of hampers)

BTW, the LR dealer here in Miami offers the new RR as a "Safari Edition,
Panther Edition and POLO Edition" All that means is more $$$, embroidered
front seats (polo, safari, etc.), burl wood surrounds for radio and a/c and
some other stick-on bits. When I asked about it, they told me that Ralph
Lauren and LRNA didn't know they were doing this, but that the logo was
"different enough" oh well...

They were also really busy replacing brand-new cylinder heads on unsold 96
discos. Apparently the factory goofed on some of the valves and they get
gunked up with carbon then float. Every 96 has to be checked for certain
computer codes in the ECM which alert the mechanics as to which heads the
vehicle has. I wonder where the take-off heads go... they should be good,
just pop in a new set of valves & springs. Also no official date on the
arrival of 97 D90 auto-boxes. I asked to get a test ride...

Jim Pappas wrote, in part, I believe that LRNA is at some point going to
release a LR bicycle from a different OEM. Stay tuned.

How many of us know the first 'diamond' shape bicycle frame was introduced by
the Coventry Sewing Machine Co? They called it the Rover. Now after so many
years of building these two and four wheel drive vehicles, they have to cast
about find a manufacturer fit to build another Rover. Kind of ironic.

Did you realise that the 2.25 ltr diesel motorblock includes the logo of
the foundry which cast it . Qualcast - which also happens to be a
prominent english lawn-mower trade name - (manual variety if I remember)
is this appropriate?

I am trying to compile a European Land Rover Cook Book - hot meals which
you can make on the exhauset manifold of a land rover - for example pork
chops, finely cut, wrapped in silver foil with butter, garlic, salt,
parsley and pepper, pressed onto the exhaust manifold before joining E3
motorway in Århus Denmark, roast at 175 degrees C (90 k.p.h for 30
minutes midsummer or 55 minutes winter, turn periodically. that sort of
thing. I'm suire that other owners must have personal recipes -
contributions welcome, I may well publish it on the net!
