From: "T.F. Mills" <tomills@du.edu> Subject: Camel Trophy 95 Date: Sat, 26 Nov 1994 02:12:18 -0700 (MST) Lloyd Allison writes: < I gather that LROA(NA) organise the USA team selection but that is the < extent of my knowledge. < (btw. Apparently all nations are being encouraged to get women to apply.) I haven't seen it yet, but Sandy Grice mentioned earlier the publication of THE CAMEL TROPHY ADVENTURE in Switzerland. It's a coffee table pictorial history. The 1995 Camel Trophy will be held in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador from May 11 to June 2. US trials will be conducted in Grand Junction, Colorado Feb. 10-13. >From all applications received, 10 candidates will be selected for the trials. Applications must be received by Dec. 1, 1994. A bit late to send for the application form, but here's where to send the details: US Camel Trophy, PO Box 587, Snowmass, CO 81654. You must be 21 or older, hold valid driver's license, be US citizen, and never held a professional race or rally license. Details needed: full name, address, tel., birthdate, sex (M or F, not Y or N), height, weight, general statement of health (specifically any problems with knees and any current medication). Also describe sports experience in past 2 years, any racing experience, 4W experience, map&compass experience, travel experience outside US, swimming ability, 6-min. mile run ability. Four finalists will be selected to go to the International Trials near Istanbul, Turkey, Mar. 21-31. The US team will also train for 4 weekends in Mar.-Apr. (All dates are subject to change.) I don't think LROA has any involvement in the event. All participant expenses in the trials and the final event are paid by Worldwide Brands Inc. It's time the US fielded a female team. Right, Jan & Jan & TeriAnn? I think 1994 was the first time women participated: Carine Duret of France, and Christel Persson of Sweden. They were not token participants since they were subjected to the same grueling tests as everybody else. T. F. Mills tomills@du.edu University of Denver Library 2150 E. Chronicle car adds post a '94 Defender 90, winch, A/C, full soft top with 9K miles for a mere $23K. I wonder where the other $10K went? From: Russell Burns <burns@cisco.com> Subject: Fender inserts for D-90 Date: Sat, 26 Nov 94 16:01:11 PST I have been noticing the sandblasting the rear member is getting from road dirt. Looking at the square box the wheels set in, I was wondering if any one has seen any plastic wheel well for a Land-Rover. Even a couple of well placed shields would protect the rear cross member from being sand-blasted. Earthed contacts are grounds and persplex for plastic windows. Metaled roads are hard top covered vs gravel. I see in Haynes that another name for the station wagon is "estate car". Pintals and gudgeons are the correct name for the lift off hinges used on the series one and it comes from boating. The same type of unit fits the rudder to the back of a boat. Swarf is a very English word for the metal junk you find in the dif when you grind it up by mistake. I come from a family born in Shephards Bush a section of London so these words are very common in our everyday talk at home. Does anyone know where they are located and an address and phone number or FAX number etc. They didn't always sponsor the Camel Trophy, but I understand that the past 3 or 4 years they have handled all the publicity for the Camel Trophy event.
