That's a tempting thought but I have a bunch of serious Iraq related stuff
to do at the crack of dawn so I better not.
My book choices for the chair by the fireplace would be either of Marazan,
So Disdained, or In the Wet, or any of the others except for On the Beach
which reflected far too much of the depression he suffered from towards the
end but then redeemed with Trustee.
I have two vague personal connections to Nevil Shute. I have flown an
Airspeed Oxford, a plane he designed. And my grandfather was one of the
lead design engineers on the R101 airship while Nevil Shute Norway was his
counterpart on the R100. My grandad's airship was funded by the government
while Shute's wasn't, went hugely overbudget, was plagued with problems,
and crashed and burned on its maiden overseas flight. Shute's airship
sailed grandly on to the America's.
Surely he must have mentioned a Land-Rover somewhere?
