I would check the coil again. Twice in the last five years I have had the
exact same symptoms, and wasted a lot of time and a little bit of money
checking other things, when it turned out to be a bad coil. I don't have a
stock electrical system so there could well be something in my system burning
up coils, I don't know. But your description of the symptoms mirrors what I
experienced. I think bad coils are like syphilis, in that they can mimic so
many other problems (or diseases in the other case). So, a new coil may be the
salvarsan that your Rover desperately needs.
Disclaimer-I am not a doctor, and I do not have, nor have I ever had,
syphilis.
