I my case the 6 is just worn out. They did have issues with burning
exhaust valves but I suspect that this was more due to the fact that
they are hard to get at to adjust so were often never maintained. They
also seem to have chronically low oil pressure.
The single most frequent problem causing early demise was a seal in the
SU carb which when it went would allow flooding into the intake. This
coupled with an electric fuel pump would fill the oil pan with gas if
the ignition was left on. Gas is a poor lubricant.
