    Clean, clean clean, then grease over the top.

    You need bright shiny metal all the way around - replace
    the bolt and the washers and wirebrush the Hell out of
    everything else (including the underside of the radiator
    panel).

    Assemble it with new plated hardware (galvanized is good,
    or solder-plate brass hardware) then keep the air away from
    it. Grease is good for this or something like Boeshield
    T-9. I used lithium grease (Lubriplate engine assembly
    lube) for years on things like this and it's served me
    well.
