Actually, Frank, LR was way ahead of you on that one.
There's an option for vehicles used by the gentry as
shooting brakes - the gimbal-mounted victrola.
Where the inner spare mount would have gone on the rear
bulkhead an arm cast in bronze mounted. It then sported a
gimbal mount which held a victrola. Said Victrola's arm
(and it was of the portable type - not one of the great
hulking horns here) was hydraulically damped in the
vertical position to avoid jumping when in motion.
These never really caught on, though, as you had to have an
operator to run it, change records and the like, and the
guides weren't terribly adept at this.
