Some Al Richer stuff: >>>>Actually, the hyphen is still there - look on the
marque badges. That good old lightning bolt between the words...
So, they ALL have the hyphen!<<<

ISTR chatting to a Land Rover press officer about this in the dim and
distant past. When they formed the Land Rover Company as a separate entity
they dropped the hyphen, but had to keep it on the badges/logo because of
copyright and the cost of changing it all.

    It says:

    > Rover"
    >

Until they formed Land Rover as a separate company (see above) all Land
Rovers were built by the Rover Car Company. That's who built them, as simple
    as that.
Another amusing aside. Geof Miller, who we mentioned earlier was 'courting'
his lovely wife Pat at the time of the pore-production trials (that's one
reason why he restored a Velar - aaah, sweet) and, 'cos the vehicle had to
be kept a (half) secret he couldn't park outside her parent's house, on a
main road, and always had to park it round the back. He says her parents
used to look at him oddly!

    >> I am curious, though, as to exactly when the hyphen went away in the name.
My manuals dated 69-70 (last century, that is) still reflect the hyphen, so
it must have been after that.<<<

Some historian me, buggered if I can remember. I do remember the press
release, which was consigned to the bin with a sigh - like who cared about a
    hyphen?
Of course, with hindsight I shoulda packed it in a plastic envelope.

What price, when I call the press office tomorrow, no-one there will have
    the faintest idea either?
'Hyphen, er... what are you talking about?'

    Best Cheers

    Reverend Frank
