For anyone who cares, SUV is a name the Automotive Industry and Press made
up to make it look like something new and unexpected had happened and
disguise the fact that they were caught completely unprepared by the growing
popularity of trucks and truck-based station wagons IMHO. Put together
growing popularity for trucks with emissions and fuel economy regulations
that make cars less desirable (in comfort, durable construction, and other
areas) and the "SUV" is what you reap.
