    It sometimes pays to not say too much. My VIN was faded on the 67 and
    so I bought a Die set and pounded the same VIN on again harder so you
    could see it. Show them the old paperwork and the VIN on the Chassis. I
    also bought a new dataplate from BP and put the same VIN on it and THEN
    went to the DMV and it got registered no problem. I had the old Pink
    slip from 1986 but it had totally dropped out of the stystem. This was
    the VIN I put on it. I'd pound on the VIN again where it sould be and
    start again with the inspectors.
