I would be willing to bet it isn't the timing chain, but rather the
distributor slipped in the clamp or popped out. I have experienced this
three times. In all cases the cause was a cracked casting at the base of
the distributor where the clamp ring secures it. Some metalized epozy cured
the problem forever.
