Jim,
I never got around to fixing it--it's still far too shallow to allow use
when the nut is on the mainshaft--which is, of course, the only time it's
really very useful.
This is tranny work--since I swapped transfer cases I've had no end of
problems w/ that mainshaft getting loose. Due to the locations of the
tabs on the special washer I've never been able to make it terribly
tight--both times I needed to back it off a bit from "chisel tight" to
get one of the tabs to line up w/ one of the gaps in the nut. Both times
it's loosened--when I pulled it off last week it had actually broken both
of the locating teeth off of the washer and gotten loose. So, I figure
that the tranny's probably not really healthy now (symptoms were BAD
vibrations and lots of popping out of 3rd and 4th) and so I'll sling in
the other tranny and t-case I have, after putting on the BRAND NEW
synchro I just got from Blanchard (30 UKP vs. $150 from RN).
