Recent experience with s Saab 900S. The alternator failed, leaving me in the
very best part of town. Very best if what you wanted was heroin crack
cocaine, and bodily violence. Luckily I was within just a little bit of my
destination a cop shop. I got a battery charge from them, and scooted for
elsewhere, and essayed to remove the alternator. The alternator is under the
air conditioner, about twenty hoses and difficult to even see, much less
service. Once down to the source of all power, I loosened the fasteners, and
attempted to remove the lower pivot bolt on the alternator. The bolt must be
removed almost completely to free the alternator from its greasy resting
place. The bolt interferes with the fire wall at about two inches withdrawal,
and must be withdrawn at least 6 inches to free the alternator. Much brute
force and massive ignorance ensued, and the alternator was eventually
removed.
The cure for replacement is to remove the oil filter mount, and to insert the
offensive bolt into its bracket from the opposite side using the resulting
freed space. Thus, to remove the alternator, one has only to remove the oil
filter assembly, not as the designers intended, the entire engine from the
car.
Is there a way to send the designers of such stuff to Iran, to assist with
their defense?
