I do a little woodworking, and when researching, bought a Shop-Vac model
which auto-switches on and off when a tool that's plugged into it's
integrated outlet is turned on and off (for sanders/etc). It came w/
attachments for connecting to tool dust-chutes. Attached nicely to my
router and it sucks up all the shavings. (Also runs for about 6 seconds
after you turn the tool off to clear the hose).
If you want quiet, get a "Fein" (german brand). Expensive though.
