    Brad,

Try Diesel Fuel Systems in Bangor, Maine. 207-941-8595. Ask for Pete. They occasionally
have not only used engines, but transmissions, mounts and accessories. These are usually
taken from bread or utility trucks, though the 4BTA in my LR, (bought from Pete), came out of a
bulldozer. They don't need cores. The automotive applications are easier since they usually
include at least the beginnings of an adaptation, like an engine to auto transmission adapter.
There are Chevy, Dodge, and Ford adapters available, and the T-19 is a commonly used
transmission behind these, as are turbo 400 AT's, and NV 4500's.

For examples of what can be done with a 4BT or 6AT, check out

This is a guy on the west coast that does the work, and he probably can get you a line on an
    engine too.
